Which antidepressant is best for thyroid condition hypo - fluoxetine or Certraline ? Or willT3 take anxiety if my conversion is not good
As I explained in your previous post, optimal thyroid medication and key vitamins greatly improved my heightened anxiety. I needed the addition of Liothyronine as my conversion was poor. Combination treatment had a huge effect on lowering my anxiety levels.
Did you try the prescribed beta blocker (or half dose of this) to help with your symptoms (outlined in your last post)?
I know many people with hypothyroidism who take different forms of anti depressants,; I’m not aware that one is more suitable than the other. It’s very much trial and error to see what works best for you.
hi the beta blocker made me feel really spaced out and I could not do anything - it also did not really help with the anxiety - I will look at adding T3 as you say
Go slowly when making adjustments if you are anything like me, as too many changes/ too high a dose of thyroid medication also spiked my anxiety. I honestly felt as bad when increasing meds as I did when on too low a dose. From experience, I’m now more of a tortoise than a hare. I added Liothyronine super- slowly (eg 2.5mcg a day) until tolerated. Try not to make more than one change at once as otherwise it’s hard to know what change is most effective.
There is no such thing as one antidepressant being better for anxiety over another. Until this day, there is very little consensus over how or even if antidepressants work. Indeed, the RCP (Royal College of Psychiatry) have stated as much in recent times have previously touting the myth that they correct a ‘chemical imbalance’ for many years. See rcpsych.ac.uk/mental-health...
I can share that in my experience, my excessive anxiety lifted almost immediately (within 2 days) after treatment began. This was after many years of debilitating anxiety which was put down to mental health alone.
brilliant - whixh treatment are you referring to - you said after 2 days it worked - are you taking about antidepressants or b12 injections ?
My experience with anxiety is the same as what Buddy195 has described with theirs. I am sorry it was not clear enough: with hypothyroid treatment my excessive anxiety lifted in 2 days and has not returned. Thank God.
Without a shadow of doubt: individual variances do happen with all medication/treatment.
However, the member posed a question on general usage of antidepressants in relation to anxiety, which is what I addressed.
Of course. Apologies if it seemed otherwise.
Phew! So easy to get wires crossed online.
