In an ideal world, everyone would get the exact thyroid medication that they need on prescription from their GP, endo. private practitioner etc. Whether that be for a short term trial, or for long term quality of life.

Sadly, in the UK at least, this all too often doesn't happen. We know that members of this community frequently end up resorting to obtaining their thyroid medications from non-prescription sources.

This is completely legal in the UK, but unfortunately it creates opportunities for unscrupulous people to scam us.

If you are looking for a reliable source, you can write a post asking for recommendations from other members. Your post will be closed to replies by an admin, to comply with forum posting guideline:

28. Do not post advertisements, links or information of any sort whatsoever, on where or how to obtain UK prescription only medications without prescription. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

The admin will emphasise in the closing post comment, that any recommendations MUST be sent to the poster by PM (private message / Chat) only. So sit back and wait for other members to contact you by message with their suggestions.

⚠️ IMPORTANT! When you receive a message with a recommendation, please do not assume it is genuine!

Scammers are joining the forum on a very regular basis and messaging members with their assertions that they have successfully purchased xyz medication from zyx source.

First, do check the profile of the member that sent you the message. Are they a long term member with an active forum posting history? Or are they a recently joined member with little or no posting history?

**** Scammers often join the forum and post a 'fake' story about their thyroid journey, that includes mention of self sourcing their thyroid meds. This is to encourage members to ask them where they purchase their medication without prescription.****

Once you have what you think may be a genuine recommendation, please message a forum admin to ask whether the admin team have any feedback on the source you've been given.

Admins are not allowed to recommend sources, but we can tell you what, if any, feedback we've received about the source you've been given.

⚠️ Don't part with your much needed money until you are as sure as you can be that the source is genuine.

Just had a look at my last blood test and they only tested my TSH ! Only other test which they did is

Haemoglobin A1c level - IFCC standardised (XaPbt) 38 mmol/mol [18 - 41]

Did you mean to post that here?

If GP only tests TSH then you need to get private tests run. See link for companies and money off codes. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

Yes I have an appointment for next week so will ask him for more detailed test.

This is unfortuntaley quite usual for NHS. Many here do their own private tests to keep track of their FT4 and FT3. I would suggest doing this yourself before committng to purchasing non prescription medication.

Your GP can request full thyroid testing, but incredibly, it's actually the lab that has the final say in what they test. Typically, if TSH is 'within range', then they will refuse FT4 and FT3.

This has been the case for at least twenty years. Even endocrinologist requests are frequently not honoured by the labs.

Best value trustworthy basic self test is this one, (use ThyroidUK10 code for 10% off). monitormyhealth.org.uk/thyr...

Hopefully you won't need it this time, but best to be forewarned!
