So obviously my results a few weeks ago were really bad and I did feel the effects of them. So I’ve been off levothyroxine as my doctor advised for 3 weeks.

so 3 weeks later.

TSH - 0.04 (0.27-4.2)

T3 - 5 (3.1-6.8)

T4 - 18.2 (11-22)

Folate - 5.1 (4-27)

Ferritin- 138 (30-400)

B12 - 377 (130-800)

Vit D - 43 (50-110)

so no idea where to go from now. Just so confused. Results have gone down ofc which is ok but like thought 3 weeks without medication apparently according to people here would change a lot.

Do you have Hashi's?

yeah

Well, that's why things haven't changed much in three weeks, then. Sometimes, it takes levels a long time to come down after a Hashi's 'hyper' swing.

Should I just stay off the medication for the time being then like I’ve been off for 3 weeks now. Just so upset and stressed

Well, seeing your previous results, there is a huge difference in FT4/3. Not in the TSH, but that really doesn't matter, it moves much slower than the Frees.

Whether or not you stay off the hormone replacement depends on how you feel. Do you feel better than when the results were high? Do you feel hypo? If so, start taking it again, regardless of the TSH. If you feel you'd like to stay off a bit longer, that's probably not a problem. But, don't wait for the TSH to rise before starting them again, or you'll make yourself ill. Go at your own pace.

You really do need to do something about your folate and B12, they are both too low. B12 should be at least 550, and folate in double figures. And being low like that will cause neurological symptoms. I would suggest you get a good B complex, with 400 mcg methylfolate (not folic acid!). And, at the same time, take 1000 mcg sublingual methylcobalamin (B12) daily. Take them until the is all gone, then just continue with the B complex as maintenance.

Previous results:

TSH: 0.02 (0.8-5)

T4: 30.8 (11-21)

T3: 9.4 (1.6-6)

Your results have gone down. Your TSH may take a few weeks or months to follow though but thats not to worry about at all. Perhaps retest in a month?

I assume you have stopped the folic acid supplement the GP prescribed for you. Your B12 is quite low too.

Are you vegan or vegetarian?

B12 - do you have symptoms of B12 deficiency? The reference range for B12 is very wide and cut off point too low. pernicious-anaemia-society....

If you do then you should discuss this with your doctor for further tests for Pernicious Anaemia.

If not, then start with a methyl B12 sublingual spray or lozenge for a week, then add a good B complex. Once you run out of the separate B12 just continue with the B complex.

This B complex has all the right vitamins at a not unreasonable cost for 90 days supply(also contains folate). Once B12 is good (over 500) you can stop the stand alone B12 and just continue with the B complex. amazon.co.uk/Liposomal-Soft...

Vitamin D should be around 100 - 150. Buy one that includes vit K2 to help it go to your bones. Some are available in oil or you can take it with an oily meal for better absorption. Use this calculator to work out how much to take to get your level to 100-150. wildatlantichealth.com/vita...

Thank you for the suggestions, I’m considering getting a bit more folic acid in me as it’s still quite low I thought B12 was ok.

Yeah they’ve recommended retest mid august and see how it’s reacting but said it’s good T3 and T4 have gone down just was concerned why they shot down in the first place. Was really concerned.

That’s what happens with Hashimoto’s. As your thyroid is attacked by autoimmune disease, thyroid cells breakdown releasing excess thyroid hormones

After an attack your thyroid will probably be more damaged and you may need higher dose levothyroxine than previously

You need a good quality daily B12 …..and a separate vitamin B complex

How much vitamin D are you currently taking

thank you yeah I’ve just been a mess (crying and confused) getting worried about it all and doctors not actually explaining what’s happened. Yeah I think I’ll look at increasing my 4000iu dose of vitamin D.

Yeah I have a b complex too but maybe I do need additional B12 supplement.

which B complex are you using

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement and add a separate vitamin B Complex after a week

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

Very effective B12 drops

Or

B12 sublingual lozenges

B12 range in U.K. is too wide

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

Hi,

Your vitamin D is too low. Believe it or not, vitamin D is a hormone and does help with thyroid issues. It’s a fat soluble vitamin and can take a few weeks to bring your levels up.
