On Armour - are my results Ok? Seeing new Consultant tomorrow.

I have been taking Armour for almost 18 months.

The third consultant has now left the hospital Endo Dept. I still have no one monitoring me - but I have to collect my prescriptions monthly now from the hospital pharmacy.

I am feeling so much better on Armour.

A new Consultant has suddenly appeared and with less than one weeks notice has requested to see me urgently and refused to reissue my prescription until I have seen her.

They has given me an appointment for tomorrow.

I am very concerned as I've had to battle every inch of the way to stay on Armour.

I think this Doc is a locum and a diabetes specialist.

I'm not sure what is going on as I've not heard from the CCG - but maybe the hospital has and thats why they wants to see me.

My bloods from four weeks ago taken by a grumpy GP had the following results;

TSH 3.58 (0.3-5.0) 69.8%

T4 8.4 (7.9-16.0) 6.2%

Triiod 5.8 (3.8-6.0) 90.9%

Could you give an opinion as to them being OK or needing tweaking?

I just have no idea. I take one grain mornings and a quarter late afternoon.

Bloods were fasting.

My stomach is churning at the thought of another battle. and being confronted yet again with threats about being not allowed to take a "black listed" drug. This is despite a consultant at that hospital prescribing it to me in January 2022. (Sadly she has vanished off the face of the earth.)

Many, many thanks

Interesting that your TSH is rather high but the fT3 is really good (which is the one that matters most) and FT4 low it’s probably really great to have these results as high Ft4 is linked to health problems. She can’t say your TSH is too low either. Fight your corner everything is in range which is all they ever seem to care about so what more do they want with you ticking all their silly numbers boxes?

You must be a very efficient t4 to t3 converter

yes I know Armour has t3 in it, but the t3 levels are very high compared to the other values. My TSH is always suppressed to get the free t3 in the upper third of the range ditto FT4 and I am a poor converter of t4 to t3. I take ThyroidS. On t4 monotherapy my FT3 was very low even with TSH of 0.2. My thyroid is totally atrophied so has no function. I find the values strange for someone on NDT and can only assume T3-T4 conversion is very efficient and even NDT is mostly t4 and will have to be converted to be ultilised. I suppose everyone varies or there could be other reasons for the unusual values

Mainam Armour is not licensed for use in the UK. Any doctor prescribing it must take full personal responsibility for the patient. Not many doctors are prepared to do this and a new doctor certainly shouldn't take the personal risk of prescribing it for a patient they have never met.Your results wouldn't suit everyone. Some folks can feel well if ft4 is low as long as ft3 is high. But others need ft4 higher in range .

I would find that I needed a higher dose of t4 to bring ft4 higher . Obviously with armour you can't increase t4 without also increasing the t3 dose. In this instance some folks add t4 levo to improve their ft4.
