Thyroid tests - new results after Levo change.

I posted recently because I changed my own Levo does (as my doctor wouldn't). My new results, 8-weeks later are now in:

I have an update at the 8-week mark I've had my levels retested. My new results are:

TSH levels 0.98 mu/L (normal range 0.27 - 4.2 mU/L)

FT3 levels 4.9 pmol/L (normal range 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L)

FT4 levels 19.3 pmol/L (normal range 12 - 22 pmol/L)

Vitamin D: Your result is 81 nmol/L - replete

It looks as though the TSH is the only one that has seen a notable change. Do these look OK on my new dose?

Frustratingly some of the results weren’t done as there was a lab error so I need to retest:

• HB, Ferritin, TSAT, Active B12, Folate

For info my previous test results were:

TSH level: Your result is 2.39 mu/L (normal range 0.27 - 4.2 mU/L)

FT3 level: Your result is 4.8 pmol/L (normal range 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L)

FT4 level: Your result is 19.4 pmol/L (normal range 12 - 22 pmol/L)

Free T4 (fT4) 19.3 pmol/L (12 - 22) 73.0%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.9 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 48.6%

Your FT3 is getting close to optimal. Your FT4 could be a little higher. Suggest dose increase of 12.5mcgs or 25mcgs alternate days.

Start a new post when you get the vitamins retested.

Optimal is not a number, it's how you feel. You cannot possibly tell if someone's FT3 is optimal just by looking at a blood test result.

previous GP result on 50mcg (October , levo taken on day of test) :

TSH 4.2

FT4 13.2 (range ?)

you got MMH result 2 mths ago , still on 50mcg : (24 hrs after last levo)

TSH: 2.39 (0.27 - 4.2)

FT4: 19.4 (12 - 22)

FT3: 4.8 (3.1 - 6.8 )

GP wouldn't increase even though they were looking at their own TSH result of 4.2, saying symptoms not relevant , .. so you (quite reasonably) increased yourself .

what dose did you increase to ?

now after 8 wks : (24hrs after last levo)

TSH: 0.98 (0.27 - 4.2)

FT4: 19.3 (12 - 22)

FT3: 4.9 (3.1 - 6.8) ..... (interestingly fT4 / fT3 haven't really moved on the higher dose , but TSh has dropped significantly)

How do you feel after 8 weeks on this dose ?

while your TSH is still in range (just) it might be an idea to get retested by GP on this dose , hopefully if TSH is in range on their test , they may agree to increase your prescription to whatever you are taking (assuming you feel better now than you did on 50mcg)

strategically , i do not think it is a good idea to increase your dose any further AT THIS POINT ~ if you do , your TSH will likely go below range giving GP the opportunity to say 'told you so' and they will definitely not agree to increase your prescription.

Also ~ if you have felt any improvements on higher dose in the first 8 weeks , it is reasonably likely that these improvements will continue steadily if you stay on that dose for another month or so.

it is also possible that your TSH might come back up a little bit if you wait another month or so before testing with GP,, but thats very much a 'suck it and see' issue , it might, or it might go lower , no way to know for sure.

So you are now taking 75mcg every day

Have you had prescription updated to reflect this?
