Advice on biopsy

Miley-moo profile image
13 Replies

My sister has been given an ultrasound on a lump on her thyroid. The person doing the scan said they could see it had calcified and it would need a biopsy. She spoke to the ent today who said as its only 9mm and not 10mm they can't do a biopsy and will just send her for a yearly scan. What the hell?? Is that normal?? #biopsy #thyroid #scan#cancer

Wow. A little over 1/32 of an inch difference. About the thickness of a penny or dime, so no biopsy? I would find another doctor.

Hi don’t settle for that. I had a lump on my left side of my throat, they kept saying to me it’s only nodules don’t worry. I had no biopsy. It was moving, eventually it was in the middle of my throat about 1yr later. I was only having scans. I was coughing up blood then they seen to me. They took my left thyroid out which was cancerous, 6 weeks later I had to have my left one out. Don’t worry everyone is different. Have bloods and check them. Mine came back have you started this patient on thyroxin. And that’s before the lump came. My doctor said there was nothing wrong with my thyroids.

Hi miley-moo❤️

Firstly don't accept that, has your sister been diagnosed with any thyroid or parathyroid condition?

As she got any blood results you could post?

I had an ultrasound scan in Nov last year and the surgeon found a 7mm nodule, I'm seeing a parathyroid specialist on Thursday to hopefully get a pet chlorine scan to determine what this nodule is.

The fact your sisters nodule is calcified could mean her calcium could be high, I have calcified tendonitis, calcification in joints and my heart, this is because my calcium has been over range for some years without anything being done about it.

It's now being treated as primary hyperparathyroidism, this condition results in calcification in areas of the body.. just something to think about 👍 but push for further investigation on your sister,.

Best of luck💗

I have calcified tendons but that’s because I have psoriatic arthritis (Enthesitis)

Hi batty1💗

I have calcified tendinitis in my shoulder 😣 had 2 sets of cortisone injections, but specialist told me I can't have anymore as it can damage the joint further.

But the parathyroid surgeon told me deposits of calcium can settle in any joints causing calcified joints, even in the jaw (brown tumor) in the ears causing imbalance, the heart, kidneys, gal bladder (stones), eyes... Its unbelievable what calcium can do, I did read somewhere years ago it was called medusa because of it looking like stone. 🤷‍♀️

I definitely don’t have issues with high calcium levels… crazy medusa

She's now been told it's a TR5 9mm highly suspicious but still won't do biopsy, any advice?

No thats not normal and the ENT isn’t someone your sister should see for this …. My thyroid cancer was missed by ENT 2 years prior and the Endo said I should have never been seen by the ENT and should have been immediately referred to him instead.

Sorry who should she be seen by?

Endocrinologist (Endo)

How did you get to see one of these as our doctors have just referred her to ENT. They have said its highly suspicious TR5 but won't biopsy until 10mm

Im in the US and I was having a lot of issues for years and they would never send me to endo until eventually after constantly feeling like I was choking to death having a crazy cough and then the panic attacks that were horrendous and last straw was my eye popping out of the socket (strange and painful experience) I was sent to the Eye doctor and he was the one who put in a referral for the Endocrinologist consultation apparently your eyes tell a story …. Im a believer and if it wasn’t for him I probably would still be dealing with all the above….. only thing I can say is being persistent in getting to at least have a fine needle biopsy.
