I’ve just been prescribed Naproxen but also been given Lansoprazole to help protect from the effects of Naproxen.

Naproxen is an NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug). Other common drugs of the same type are aspirin and ibuprofen. You should read the wiki page on them.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonst...

NSAIDs cause damage to the stomach lining, and the only way that can be avoided (that I know of) is to take a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) with the NSAID.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto...

Anecdote : I took a lot of ibuprofen in my 20s for very severe period pains. It was over-the-counter and it had only just become available at the time to ordinary people without a prescription and I knew nothing about it. I ended up with a stomach ulcer and gastritis (inflamed stomach lining). I got treatment for the stomach ulcer (which did go away) but the gastritis became a chronic problem. I still have problems with it today nearly 40 years later.

Bringing this up to date, I am now prescribed naproxen for chronic pain and I take Lansoprazole (a PPI) with it. This time around my stomach is coping with the NSAID as long as I take the PPI as well.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanso...

I would love to be able to stop the NSAID and the PPI. But since the chronic pain I have is never going to go away I'm stuck with them for life.

I was prescribed Naproxen in September last year for chronic back and hip pain (arthritis in both) and took it immediately after a porridge breakfast which seemed to protect my tummy quite well. I found I needed at least two tablets to alleviate the pain in the morning. However, I had to stop them as they really aggravated my usually well controlled nasal polyps which I’ve had to work hard at to bring back under control since Xmas. I’m now just back on paracetamol and cocodamol, and have an appointment for my hip at the Orthopaedic Hospital next month…

If it ain’t one thing, it’s another, innit? 😫

Yes, it certainly is. Have you tried a good quality CBD oil? I would have been lost without it as it helped me sleep and also inflammation. I have a hip injury, torn ligaments and an old back injury, again ligament damage. Since I stopped going to the gym because of covid, my fitness level had dramatically reduced and cant afford to rejoin. So its you tube yoga now🙄🙄🙄🙄

I’ve been looking at CBD oil, but there are so many out there it’s hard to know which ones would be best. I’d welcome recommendations.

Definitely get Omeprozole ! I had a stomach bleed from Naproxen and was rushed to hospital 10 years ago. If you experience black stools call your Dr . Sorry to scare you 🙈
