Has anyone experience with mould allergy/mycotoxins?

My health is pretty good but I have a lingering oral problem (persistent leak/discharge from top left gum) and a few cognitive issues that come and go. I have turned every stone and latest MRI’s and CT scans still show nothing unremarkable but a Regenerus Mycotoxin test has just revealed very high levels of Ochratoxin A, Gliotoxin and Citrinin (Dihydrocitrinone DHC).

We had severe house water damage in 1995 (ceilings down, floorboards up, etc). I have bought a HEPA filter for my bedroom, will be having the house surveyed for wall cavity mould infestation, and starting binders next week. Other treatment is being delayed until mould source is established and I’m still on nasal steroid drops from ENT consultant who sorted the MRI, etc.

Does this journey ever end? 🙄

I can highly recommend medical medium Anthony William for recovery from such things. Here are the links to his write up about the subject.

I have a friend whose husband suffered extreme health problems originally caused by mould at work.

He then found the U.K. housing stock - old and new - to be full of of mould, and moved back to the country he is originally from, where the problem isn’t as widespread.

A few years after the physical symptoms started, he then suffered major psychiatric overwhelm and instability. Impossible to know whether this triggered by the mould and damp itself or by the consequent psychological experiences of being ignored and belittled by doctors for years, all the while he was very ill and weak and not receiving help, and having to then exist on the margins of society (living in a wood at one stage, while he found somewhere safe to live) while he got better and found treatment, and the feelings of paranoia that this kind of hidden danger must play into, with all the washing and throwing away of things that might have spores in and avoiding of wider society etc.. Either way, the trajectory all started when mould became a problem.

I don’t remember his medical treatments but I do remember he found a doctor who is also a medical academic / professor in Manchester, who understood the problem, took him seriously - and probably saw him privately - and was a great help.

Science understands and takes seriously the role of fungal disease and pathology in critical illness, it seems, but at the general practitioner and housing level, not so much.

HowNowWhatNow,

Oh the poor man, how awful.

I’ve only had a quick read as can’t start treatment until the source is established/removed. If the cavity wall space is the issue apparently they inject some sort of steam cleaner full of chemicals into the walls 🤷‍♀️. No sympathy from my kids who can’t take it seriously as I’m a bit OCD regarding housework and cleanliness 🙄, and my husband is looking at his wallet 😁, but I understand it is serious … enough to be included in chemical warfare!

I’ve bought a book and protocol looks much the same as heavy metals which I am familiar with.

some very interesting Eric Balcavage podcasts on mould … have you found those? Some US experts speaking on it. Well done discovering, I look forward to hearing more 🌱

radd in reply to Regenallotment

No, so thank you Regenallotment for the reminder, as I like our Eric & his enthusiasm.

'Well done discovering, I look forward to hearing more'. You make it sound as if it is something good and I've won a prize 🤣. It was mentioned to me before by a practitioner and I didn't really believe it, but my symptoms pointed to it and now the results are shocking. I don't feel bad, just my mouth issues and sometimes dizziness, usually in bed which is weird.

Watch this space as a new journey begins.

What happens when you go away?

Do you feel better for the week?

My daughter has asthma and when we go away she inevitably doesn’t cough for the full time she is away. Once she started coughing as soon as she arrived back in our road - like Pavlov’s dog!

radd in reply to HowNowWhatNow

Ahh, the old 'conditioning' 😁. Have you investigated a stimulus?

I forgot to mention in my o/p sometimes I sneeze a lot in bed. It hadn't occurred to me I improve when we go away until my husband pointed it out when the practitioner was trying to unpick symptoms.

I think some people have an allergy-like reaction to air pollution. It irritates their throat - already inflamed by underlying asthma, in her case. So it could be that.

Asthma is to my mind fairly poorly understood, a bit like thyroid conditions. Doctors are happy to medicalise every symptom, whereas 100 years ago suggestions like sea air, wind / brass instruments, swimming and running might have featured more strongly.

Mold is a monster that everyone should take serious… it can cause respiratory problems and so much more I worked years ago in an old military building turnt into an office building and this place almost killed me I would almost daily come down with debilitating vertigo and terrible breathing problems once I left I cleared up but it took a while and I had to have allergy injections one of the items inside my shot was for mold (can’t recall the name) its been over 10 years now and trees.

argh, I often feel better at work. Keeping our cat out of the bedroom and changing carpet for tiled floors(and moving out of a 200 Yr old house that flooded annually) has helped no end.

Yes!!!

Mould is a huge problem and can be a big trigger for causing hashimotos. I know of several people who have managed to reverse their hashimotos and totally put it into remission and are now no longer on thyroid replacement - all by addressing mycotoxins as a root cause.

Did you have thyroid issues before the mould exposure in 1995??

Mycotoxins are one of my root causes- when I did the regenerus test last year I had high levels of the strains you mentioned. My exposure was from living in a flat with mould 12 years ago which is when my health started to deteriorate and I was diagnosed with CFS, and then 6 months ago hashimotos.

An interesting research paper I have shows that in a study of people diagnosed with CFS, over 90% test positive for significant mycotoxin levels.

I have a whole protocol from my functional dr ready to start to get rid of the mycotoxins in my body- but waiting first to get stable on NDT and T3.

Sinclair Kennaly is an AMAZING practitioner based in US who herself had terrible mycotoxin issues and reversed her hashimotos, Lupus, ADHD, depression, gut issues etc by siting out her mould issue. Her business is detoxrejuvination.com. She is brilliant.

Dr Jill Christa, Dr Kinghard are also good mould/ mycotoxin experts.

Interestingly the mycotoxins suppress the deoodinase enzymes and therefore play huge role in creating thyroid Illness. Other research studies I have show that because of this T4 mono therapy is therefore ineffective at treating people with hypothyroidism triggered/ caused by mycotoxins issues .

I know a mould remediation guy in London who does non toxic mould remediation and doesn’t spray nasty chemicals. He is to my knowledge the only person in UKto use this technique so I can give you his details by Pf you need.

The key though when you do a mould detox protocol is to do it slowly and make sure you are really excreting it properly- vital your emunctories are functioning well. Infrared sauna, coffee enemas, lymphatic draining through skin brushing etc are crucial.. as is proper mitochondrial support. Many practitioners miss the bit about mitochondrial support. Peptide therapy often useful too as an adjunct. The correct binders that are mycotoxin strain specific are really important- I’ve heard of many functional doctors/ practioners who just put people on activated charcoal and that simply does not bind to the mycotoxins. With glutathione which is a really important part of any protocol I would recommend nebulising it- I’ve got mine from US. Again happy to share any details that might help. Nebulising is much more effective than taking it orally, and cheaper/ easier than doing IV drips.

I’m passionate about all things mould related and have done a lot of research into it so let me know if I can be of any help.

Good luck x

Lucy, thank you for this helpful response.

My history, unrecognised thyroid issues for over 30 years before 2011 diagnosis and now my gland is atrophied. Today, completely stable on thyroid meds, HRT and feel great (except for oral issues). That’s why mould results were such a shock but we lived with mould as a kid so I wonder if it’s something I have always harboured, topped up with the 1995 house flood. Symptoms are sneezing at night, about a dozen tiny body spots that won’t heal and my mouth issues.

I'll check those practitioners you recommend. I’ve been through a heavy metal detox so am familiar with detox protocol but nothing exclusively to mould. I’m in between functional practitioners atm so have been put on Bio Botanicals GI Detox and Active Silver Nasal Spray by functional endo until treatment with ENT consultant is concluded next week. Meanwhile I found this site regarding binders …. mosaicdx.com/resource/8-bin.... Does it sound about right?

Also very interested in nebulising glutathione which is notoriously hard to successfully supplement. I have genetic iron overload so already take Datis Kharrizian’s Apex Trizomal Liposamal Glutathione. Could you supply details of your nebuliser and where you purchase the ampules please.

Lucy,

What do you think of ozone saunas?

I've been on a waiting list for local hyperbaric oxygen therapy but fear it might never happen.

LucyYoga profile image
LucyYoga in reply to radd

Yes I was going to suggest hyperbaric chamber- I don’t really know anything about ozone saunas. I think infrared good enough to do the trick - near infrared better than far in this instance. X

Hi,

Nebuliser I got is from Amazon - about £100 - OMRON C28P CompAir Nebuliser with Virtual Valve Technology

The ampules are- Theranaturals reduced L- Glutathione Plus. It’s USP grade.

theranaturals.com

I was recommended to nebulise 3 capsules a day and not to take any other form of glutathione. You will also need 0.9 saline solution - available from Amazon.

Bertwills in reply to LucyYoga

I liked what I read in your post & decided to try out your nebuliser regime. I’m having problems ordering from the Theranaturals website though. Have you used them recently?

Thanks

radd profile image
radd in reply to Bertwills

Bertwills,

You can order here and pay by Paypal.

theranaturals.com/product/r...

ps - I haven't tried nebulising glutathione yet because I had a cough and the website states ..... 'CAUTION: If you have been exposed to the black mold Stachybotrys chartarum and have a lung infection suspected or diagnosed to be related, it is not recommended that you nebulize (oral is okay) with glutathione until the mold is treated by a medical professional via antifungals. The black mold appears to absorb the free glutathione in the lungs very readily through its slime head and protects itself from the normal human immune response. Use extreme caution if you suspect a Stachybotrys chartarum lung infection and toxicity or have been diagnosed with a related Stachybotrys chartaum issue by a medical professional.'

However, I am nebulising hypochlorous acid as recommended by a nutritional/biological dentist. This has disinfectant properties, destroying pathogens, reducing inflammation and importantly biofilm, so completely different to glutathione that is supporting detox pathways. If you are looking to detox, the two separate approaches will compliment each other so you can use them together but not at the same time.

Unfortunately the site didn’t want to work for me. Couldn’t get the PayPal payment to go through.

I’ll leave it awhile & try again. It seems an awful interesting idea.

helvella profile image

Not sure you can use PayPal on an international site like that!

I just had real problems ordering something from Germany - PayPal seems to be available but just doesn't complete.

I changed to a vendor who allows card payment and it went through in seconds.

Rather odd as I thought PayPal did work internationally. :-(

Bertwills profile image
Bertwills in reply to helvella

Thank you for that info. I certainly did expect PayPal to work on an American website. It will save me some money anyway!

radd in reply to Bertwills

Bertwills,

I’m in UK and PayPal worked for me. I haven’t received the glutathione yet but the order has gone through and it appears legit.

Until yesterday/day before, so would I. And I could be wrong!

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to Bertwills

By the way, every few months, Lidl offer a nebuliser.

No idea of quality, etc. and they have been criticised in case asthmatics buy them and delay seeking help. But just in case you are interested. Latest date I saw was 26 July 2023!

26 Jul 2023 Medisana Nebuliser £22.99

So possibly some still in a few shops. (I think a few shops are earmarked to take leftover stock so maybe only a few branches.)

Even a YouTube review!

helvella, &   Bertwills

That is a good price. I paid around £50 for mine from Boots (as they are half price ).

When my son was young we put the liquid into the machine but the one I have now I put the liquid into a container (attached to the face mask) at the end of the hose attached to the machine. In essence this means I can nebulise anything without risking damage to the machine. The liquid I am presenting nebulising contains salt and would have destroyed my sons machine.

The purchase of this type is accidental as I didn't know they came like this but it is definitely a preferable model in my mind.

I read the mosaicdx doc - makes sense although it does encourage use of activated charcoal which is at variance with what Sinclair recommends. But I’m sure you’ll research what feels best for you

LucyYoga,

How is your mould detox going?

LucyYoga profile image
LucyYoga

Hi Radd-

I haven’t started it yet- I plan on starting it in a few months. Wanted to wait until I get my thyroid hormone levels closer to optimal- and mitochondria in better shape - before I embark. I’ve been working with an amazing Kinesiologist these past 3 months -who I see every 2 weeks- and my progress has sky rocketed!

How are you?

How is your mycotoxin protocol going?

radd profile image
radd in reply to LucyYoga

LucyYoga,

Good to put the foundations in place first.

I had building forensics give a negative report on our bedroom, but have bought a HEPA filter and am taking it really slow with binders and gallbladder/liver/probiotic support. That's it atm. Will incorporate saunas, etc when weather temps lower as its just too hot atm.

Edit - and am nebulising as mentioned above.

LucyYoga profile image
LucyYoga in reply to radd

Good news negative on the mould in bedroom….. that must be huge relief.

Makes good sense to go slow on all the supplements - I plan on doing the same.

Glad to hear nebulising going well.

I just bought enema equipment and special gerson coffee to start doing coffee enemas when I start the protocol.. the fun never ends!

I’ll keep you posted on my journey with it and let me know how you are doing too.

Do you have details you could pm me of good biological dentist you mentioned. My one has retired and would be interested if you have personal recommendation.

Thanks
