Body swelling

Does anyone else find their body suddenly swells after eating or drinking? It doesn't matter how little I eat or drink it just happens spontaneously. Wanted to lose some weight for my son's wedding in a few weeks but it's impossible! Hypothyroidism is such a frustrating condition.

I would get severely bloated after eating any sized meal that had gluten, dairy, sugar or fats in it. Once I cut out all gluten, dairy, fats and sugar, my bloating stopped. I'm on a low FODMAP diet that seemed to be the missing link.

Try cutting out anything beige for the next few weeks. Cakes, pies, biscuits, bread etc. You’ll drop those few pounds

I've been on the zoe nutrition programme since January and ĺost more than a stone in weight. It really makes you think about what you do eat and is, I think, retraining for life. Might be worth reading up on it.

Son in law and friend about to embark on Zoe. What’s a typical day’s menu look like for you?

Lots of veg and fruit, reduced meat, more lentils, pearl barley, beans and other legumes. You might think this is a bit awful but the way they introduce it is very clever. I don't really want to eat high fat and sugary things now. I know I can and sometimes I do but it has had the effect of making me more mindful of the effect of what I eat on how I feel both emotionally and physically. A big part of it is that when you do eat stuff that scores low you learn how to use better quality foods to up your score.

Not awful at all, very similar to my own diet with exception to beans and the fact I eat meat or fish most days

Being mindful makes a huge difference doesn’t it and especially now you’re including better quality foods

Thank you for that and good luck

Oh I forgot to mention lots of seeds and nuts and plenty of extra virgin olive oil. My body apparently metabolises fat badly so someone else might eat differently depending on their own metabolism.

Really? How did you find out?

That's part of the Zoe programme. You begin by attaching a blood sugar monitor to your arm and eating the muffins they send you. Then you do a fingertip blood test and collect your poo to send them. They send a detailed report. I was poor microbiome (gut bugs) and bad fat metabolism, good blood sugar metabolism. Then you log your food and they give every item you eat a score based on your results.

So interesting. Hope you’re managing to improve things such as your gut biome but how does one improve fat metabolism I wonder

I don't think you can improve your fat metabolism you just take it into account when you eat. Zoe are apparently bringing in retests of microbiome soon.

Agree with Ice187 - would add coffee (to the remove list).

I get very bloated after eating anything, I look like I’m pregnant. I associate this with being hipo. Getting the levels right and probiotics seem to help.

I get this in the later afternoon. Worse when eating gluten, sugar as some have commented.

I have run out of digestive enzymes and it's worse, so maybe those are worth a try for you.

Also B6 in the P5P form, I'm retaining more water now.

Not what you're looking for?
