Hi all. Sorry I am.still.feeling unwell. Resisting going back to.Drs as my thyroid review will.probably be in new year .the.physio.I saw said nothing wrong with my spine tho it hurts at the base he can't find reason for my.Not walking my.Knee feels numb and that leg feels like I am.dragging it and tiring to.walk or try to he just pressed my thigh.and said can you.feel it. I could so that was that ,he was concerned about the walking where I have to stop rest my legs as muscles tire but no muscle weakness. . I have permanent bad head from the sinus mucus coughing up in bed I am choking at times and have had to get up.early hours as felt unwell nauseous . The physio said would talk to gp possibly send to.rheumatology but I dont think.that's causing it . I know the mucus production is part of low thyroid .But am now getting swollen feet I am not moving.about as much I know and obese as put on weight last year when this all.started after my operation my belly feels like fluid and pressing down if I stand. Am just feeling that most of these things happen with heart failure too. And not being treated for 13 years I am concerned. I had this foot ankle swelling when put on thyroxine before. I was able walk at that time.. Should I be worried about heart problems the Dr did check my heart with stethoscope in November was all ok .. I really want this mucus head pain to stop but Drs just leave you.with it over three years now and getting worse. Am.fed up.Drs ignoring that as if it's nothing . They haven't even checked throat or done an endoscopy. My.lungs are ok too. I try to just carry on until the day my thyroid med suits and feel well. But I cant.see that happening. Sadly. Xxx.

As per your last post, with a TSH over 5 you definitely required an increase in Levothyroxine. TSH should always be under 2, with most members reporting they feel best when it falls under 1. How long have you been on your increased dose? Although we recommend retesting levels 6-8 weeks after a dose increase, I personally find it takes me a full 8 weeks so feel the benefit of an increase.

Were key thyroid vitamins tested (ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D)?

Hi thanks for replying and taking trouble of looking all that up. I feel chilled all time as well and know I need increase my next review will prob be in new year .not sure way they talk whether they will think needs increasing but I certainly do I have lot weight and think be nearer 175 mcg if I feel better one day .my vitamins were OK not great on b 12 and vit d as I remember. Been taking extra but forget sometimes and never sure I am nit making things worse . Been a hard 8 weeks already .I have been on 100 mcg since early November I think. . This coughing up mucus head pain stinging in face and neck throat pain is getting me down and walking is def worse . I just accept this is it now . Never get any proof of why . Sad to say like lot of others tempting to come.off them to see as I felt better before after.coming off them ..can it be any worse ? Just seems one thing after another thank you tho I guess noone can explain it without numerous tests .gp said to me at previous surgery you.wont get to know why can't.walk.unless in a hospital bed . Trouble is you aren't ill enough fir that and far as blood tests show I am fine . Wish I felt it just get upset as can't get.life back .a distant memory.. x

Get yourself a weekly pill dispenser just for vitamin supplements and keep in kitchen so you remember every day

What were most recent vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin results

Aiming for vitamin D at least over 80nmol

Serum B12 over 500

Active B12 over 70 minimum

Folate at top of range

Ferritin at least over 70

Numb legs suggests possibly low B12/folate vitamin levels

Janine159 - TBH, there are so many things that swollen feet could be that you are best seeing a GP. Kidneys, liver, heart, vascular/arterial disease, medications, all sorts of possibilities, most of which require investigation starting with GP visit. In my experience, that sort of thing is what GPs usually have some clue about, even if the same GP is hopeless on endocrine stuff.

Looking at previous posts

You had dose increase in Levo too 100mcg a month ago

Get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing after 2 months on new dose

What vitamin supplements are you taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

Sinus and mucus suggests dairy intolerance

Very common to develop dairy and/or gluten intolerance with autoimmune thyroid disease

If not already on gluten free diet get coeliac blood test BEFORE trialing strictly gluten free diet

And consider dairy free too

Much easier these days with loads of dairy free alternatives available

Thank you yes I have wondered about that myself amd read on here about that . Just hard to.cut it out have tried various milks but nothing.that enjoy that much .i like some alpro products they are OK aren't they.or bad ? Yes I must try as might help thank you

Avoid soya

Personally I was really reluctant to go dairy free……but was persuaded by lipodema specialist to try it

It’s been astonishing improvement. I would never go back to dairy

Best milk in my view

Plenish oat (not the barista version)

cheap via Amazon

amazon.co.uk/Plenish-Organi...

Cathedral city plant based “cheese” is acceptable on shep pie or spag Bol etc

Gluten free is definitely worth trying and easier than dairy

But with mucus issues try dairy free first

Thank you I bought the milk and plant cheese today in Waitrose it's on offer 1.75. At moment. No colour in tea but tastes ok . And the cheese is very good I bought some grated plant based. Surprised how good it is thanks

Yes Plenish doesn’t colour the tea much (because it has no oil in it. Oil makes them taste bitter)

It’s the best tasting one I have found

Great in coffee

Thanks. I don't drink coffee much. But it's not bad. X

By any chance, have you gotten checked for heavy metals?

Janine159 profile image

Hi no nothing's been checked only standard blood tests. . It's hard seeing diff Drs if I go back I had thorough checks by a senior gp.with a junior Dr a few months ago. Heart .lungs strength legs arms pulse nothing looked wrong yet I am struggling. Worse than been and walking is worse if that was possible I changed gp.surgeries last November as I felt no-one was helping after the walking suddenly became worse can't cross the room now very unstable and coughimg up day and night . Very tiring . Job to sleep..been told need see ent. Ent advised seeing neurologist but hsvent.checked my nose throat out. So no nearer knowing why I am coughing up.so much and where from. I have bought the oat milk from Waitrose in the end and the plant based cheese it tastes just like proper cheese pleasantly.surprised. Thanks for advice xx

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I don't know if you could test for heavy metals without a dr. (depending on where you live), but I know if you live in the U.S. you can. It is usually a hair test or if you have someone who specializes in homeopathics they might have a computer that can read it also. I have read Mercury in particular can make you gain water weight (quickly sometimes) to protect organs, so that was why I mentioned it. If you get a chance, do some research on high levels of mercury. If it is something that comes up in a test, look into Zeolite (but a natural... Make sure it is natural and not man-made... one that can also cross the blood brain barrier). You could also try that before testing as a detox is always good to do and see if you experience positive results. But, if you decide to go very slow and start with a very low amount as you could experience temporary stuff such things as achy muscles, etc. At that point you could stop and take a lower amount when those temporary symptoms go away. I hope this helps and you get better quickly! Please keep us updated...

Thank you for taking the time. I am in the uk. Nothing like that is ever tested. I do feel there's lot fluid retention. Esp abdomen but seems it's common with hypothyroidism .. I felt v unwell.yesterday and had visitors didn't feel too bad this morning but my walking is really hard knee numbness so feels like I am dragging that leg feeling hard and tiring my base spine then comes under strain . I feel chilled and rough again now I am due a review soon and not looking forward to the Drs assuming all's ok . As they do. If they even ask how are you feeling now I will be surprised. . Was tempted to back see Dr today but thinking suppose Drs are hoping time off and maybe only taking patients who really need seeing . Xmas as well. Will try get review after Xmas. Happy Xmas to everyone. You have all helped so much this year. Let's hope it's a better year 2025. Xx
