Whilst researching various brands of t3, I have a query.... Which Liothyronine ingredient is better, Liothyronine sodium or Liothyronine hydrochloride?

I looked back at this and it has been said that there is nothing between them and it is more likely the excipients that can make a difference... 🤷‍♀️

I have found Thybon Henning (liothyronine hydrochloride) to be a little bit better. It seems at least as effective but a little bit gentler. I haven’t been able to find any information on its pharmacokinetics, the rate at which it is absorbed and eliminated.

how do you mean a little more gentler

Difficult to say, it is just as effective but it doesn't seem as 'sharp' in its effects. I wonder if it is more slowly absorbed? The difference is quite subtle but I prefer Thybon.

I can only comment on the one I have used which is Liothyronine Sodium. This is the one called Cynomel and is the one used in France where I Live.

After years on NDT I found that the Cynomel is very fast acting for me I actually take it with food. I have no Gut problems at all. Everyone on this site seems to prefer Thybon Henning which is the Hydrochloride one. Maybe because the other one is not available in the UK?

All the UK brands are liothyronine sodium. Many people get Thybon Henning because it is cheaper than UK brands but it is more difficult to get a prescription because it is not licensed in the UK.

Few French pharmacies, if any, were willing to supply Sanofi Cynomel against a UK prescription - over the internet - even before brexit.

And few UK doctors would be willing to prescribe 25 microgram liothyronine tablets at all - with the exception of occasional prescriptions for Pfizer Cytomel. Certainly, very few got it.

(A tiny number managed to persuade their doctors to prescribe it largely argued on the basis of cost!)

Yes the French certainly have defined codes of practise for everything health wise, in fact everything.

My endo said in his experience, Thybon Henning (Liothyronine hydrochloride) is better tolerated by more people.

Don’t know if this is true. I take TH along with thyroxine and have no issues with it. I can have issues with some meds/fillers, so I am pleased that this one suits me. I wouldn’t want to change brands now because of intolerances that I have. Couldn’t be doing with the hassle if there was an issue.
