Hi , on NDT and my bloods are in range . I’ve been going though a lot of personal issues lately and have tried beta blockers for anxiety attacks but not working so the doctor has recommended Sertaline .
I’ve never taken before and want to find out if it interferes with NDT or thyroid or anything? Can anyone advise bore I take it ?
thanks

Setraline works by altering the levels of the body's chemical messenger, serotonin. Much of the body's serotonin is produced in the gut. Altering the levels of serotonin therefore alters gut function. this in turn may mean that oral thyroid hormones are not absorbed as well as previously and it might result in having to take a slightly higher dose of thyroid hormones.
I suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for years and was on and off a similar drug during that time. My thyroid results were also in range. However, being in range didn't mean that I was on a high enough dose of thyroid hormones, I subsequently discovered. Once I was properly medicated with my thyroid hormone levels higher in the same ranges, my anxiety stopped.
thanks for replying. I’m wondering was your levels not good on just thyroxine? Did they improve on the T3 added and did you do that while taking the sertraline ?
My Blood levels are in good range on 3 x thyroid S a day but the panic is due to my mother being ill with dementia and long term stress /ptsd connection to my ex and his partner etc so that’s why I thought sertraline would be helpful.
My levels were not good on levo only initially because I wasn't on a high enough dose. My TSH was top of range and my ft4 less than 50% through range.I all but stopped levo because I felt so bad. That eventually caused a crisis. After that I was put on a decent dose of levo and the anxiety went but other symptoms remained and I began to look at t3 then
hi. I tried sertraline whilst on AT drugs and my Graves’ disease wildly out of control. It was horrible. I was vomiting after 3 days. I found r it a very hard drug to withdraw from once started. Your dr has decided the benefits out weigh the risks so it’s always your choice. It’s a hard position to be in. Only u know what is right for you. Did your dr discuss reduced absorption of NDT on the sertraline? I would keep a diary of how you are feeling as it’s easy to forget how we are
I myself have ptsd. I myself found having the thyroidectomy resolved a lot of the mental illness I was suffering. I found getting the thyroid levels in a better place helped a lot with how I felt and it helped me to cope better with life. I have been with a psychologist now for 2 years. Antidepressants are a tool in a tool box of many tools.
