Pregnancy loss, results confusing?

My previous postshealthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Bit of a long story - tried to test my blood with monitor my health, there were many issues with blood clots then they didn't process it or did process half but not all - just issues! Anyway, after sending me a third kit that also didn't go well, they explained they did have results for B12, ferritin and haemoglobin for me.

They've sent them over and I'm just confused. The document says collected 29/3/23, but the most recent one I sent in was Monday (17/4/23). With that, this is old data? My ferritin looks good in this one, well better at least. (I have emailed to clarify if this is old data).

I have since (13-4-23) had my blood drawn with the GP and the levels have dropped significantly. I did miscarry around the 8/9-4-23, maybe that explains the drop? Does that also suggest it is more of a temporary drop rather than long term issue?

MMH haven't shared ranges, just a bottom number that if I went under would be classed as an issue.

"Our anaemia tests do not have reference ranges. Instead, we have cut-off values below which a measure can be considered low. These cut-off values follow the recommendations of the British Society for Haematology.

Haemoglobin: below 120 g/L for females and below 130 g/L for males indicates anaemia

Ferritin: below 15 ug/L suggests iron deficiency

Transferrin Saturation: below 16% suggests iron deficiency

Folate: 3 ug/L or below suggests folate deficiency

Active vitamin B12: below 38 pmol/L suggests vitamin B12 deficiency"

Thank you for any insight you can share.

I have recently done an MMH test, reported on 21/3/23, and my results are shown on a graph as below. I've also done previous thyroid tests with them and never have they come back in the format yours have.

Using the graphs with numbers on the side for the tests, the green "normal range" band for haemoglobin is approx just below 126 to just above 270. My NHS GP's range for haemoglobin is 115-165. Your haemoglobin of 141 seems to be fine.

The MMH ferritin normal range is showing on the green band as approx 15 to just over 400. My NHS GP range is 15-300. Your level of 57 is rather low and I've seen it said that the optimal level for thyroid function is 90-110ug/L. Before considering supplementing with iron it's important to do a full iron panel to include

serum iron

saturation percentage

total iron binding capacity

ferritin

If you have good serum iron and saturation then taking iron tablets would push these too high and could cause iron overload. For low ferritin with normal iron levels you could try raising ferritin by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, also liver pate, black pudding, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet

For Active B12 the range is generally about 37.5-188 and the MMH range on their graph shows as about 40-210. As it's considered that Active B12 below 70 could possibly suggest B12 deficiency, and we suggest to aim for 100 plus then your level of 123 is very good.

Let us know if MMH come back with new figures if they've mixed up your test results and these are not your latest ones.

What were your results from your recent GP test?

Sorry, I've missed out one of my posts with the GP data on it. Haemoglobin was 139, high in lymphocytes too. I can share a screenshot if that's more helpfulhealthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Yes, re MMH format. Because it was a third test and they do not normally send out a third, they said the system didn't know how to automatically report on it- it was like they'd manually overridden it for me. That said, it should then be the latter data, not the earlier one. I will await their response.

From the GP results I started back with liver, oysters and iron rich food and I hope it's having an impact - I hope MMH say these results are the most recent but who knows! And I also doubt it but that's okay.

Raised lymphocytes can be due to infection or if you have an autoimmune condition (eg Hashi's hypothyroidism - have you even had thyroid antibodies tested to see if you have Hashi's?).

It's not a good idea comparing ferritin levels from different labs, there has aways been a big difference between my GP ferritin level and Medichecks, same for other members too and when queried there has never been a satisfactory answer for the difference.

Your GP ferritin level on 13th April is dire and I don't believe it could have risen to 57 when tested a few days later with MMH. It's always worth testing an inflammation marker, eg CRP, at the same time as ferritin because if inflammation is present it raises ferritin level, but it's not something that's routinely done. The notes on the GP print out even says "Or a ferritin of 15-70 with raised CRP. Consider possible iron deficiency. May warrant a trial of iron." Presumably your GP didn't have his glasses on when he read these results!

I know - she's pretty unhelpful to say the least! I did think comparing two different locations might not work.I've got a thyroid health randox kit to do Monday. I know I need to do iron but I haven't got the money this month
