I am doing a full test with medi checks should of had results today but there’s an error with my sample so have ordered another test.

I do have results from doctors, this blood test was done at 2pm (I know I should do it in the morning but I was unable to do so and I had booked it for my 3 month check for monitoring my immune suppression medication as I have psoriatic arthritis) I had not fasted but had stopped my vitamins for 2weeks and some 1 week before.

serum TSH level 1.7 (0.30-4.80)

Serum Ferritin 34.5 (11.00-307.00)

serum B12 349 (145.00-914.00)

Serum Folate 15.93 (3.00-20.00)

Vitamin D 40 (sufficient)

HbA1c (DCCT aligned) 4.4%

HbA1c IFCC standardised 25 (20.00-41.00

WBC 5.5 (4.00-11.00)

RBC 3.74 (3.80-4.80)

Haematocrit 0.38 (0.36-0.46)

MCV 102.3 (80.00-100.2) this one is always over but the 102 is lower than normal

MCH 35.1 (27.00-34.00)

is vitamin D 40nmol

B12 and ferritin both very low

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Only need to stop vitamin B complex 5-7 days before test

With such low B12 are you taking separate B12 as well as B complex. You don’t need to stop B12

Ferritin.

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anae...

Serum ferritin level is the biochemical test, which most reliably correlates with relative total body iron stores. In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency.

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

We have received further information the lab about ferritin reference ranges. They confirm that they are sex dependent up to the age of 60, then beyond the age of 60 the reference range is the same for both sexes:

Males 16-60: 30-400 ug/L

Female's: 16-60: 30-150

Both >60: 30-650

The lower limit of 30 ug/L is in accordance with the updated NICE guidance and the upper limits are in accordance with guidance from the Association of Clinical Biochemists. ‘

Obviously just TSH tells you nothing

hi yes I take B vitamins and a multivitamin and I have protein drinks that have vitamins etc. I know TSH is not any good without the other markers was hoping for them today but my blood sample was not good enough or something, so waiting for another.

Thanks for all the links I will have a good read all my doctor said was take a vitamin D supplement 🙄

Multivitamins never recommended on here

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

So vitamin D was 40nmol and therefore insufficient

GP should prescribe 1600iu everyday for 6 months

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/218...

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

when was this test

Are they sending another for thyroid antibodies to be retested

B12 is EXTREMELY Low, especially if been supplementing B12

Exactly what supplements are you taking that contain B12

If not vegetarian or vegan request GP test for Pernicious Anaemia

You may need B12 injections

this test was done Tuesday morning at 9.am I have been taking B complex everyday for years. I’m lactose intolerant so don’t have anything milk based but do have soya yogurts twice a day and have fortified rice milk with my protein shakes.

Yes I’m going to receive another test in the next few days. I’m also celiac but have a good diet I believe

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toBelle76

Soya not recommended for anyone with thyroid disease, or suspected thyroid issues

Perhaps try different non dairy yogurt

Push for testing for Pernicious Anaemia

Belle76 profile image
Belle76 in reply toSlowDragon

thank you, I will push for testing for PA, I did need B12 injections about 20+years ago but that was only for a few months.

I will try other yogurts but my gut reacts badly to many other products that are dairy free so it’s hard trying to find an alternative.

Thanks for all the information and replies 😁
