These aren’t mine. They belong to a friend. Male, felt rubbish for, well as long as I have known him. Years.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Ferritin 343 (30-400)
B12 279 (145-569)
Vit d 31 (75 - 200) 😱
Thank you 🙏🏻

Yeswithasmile
Vit D is very close to deficiency (deficiency is less than 25nmol/L).
Thyroid results could suggest a problem so there are questions to be asked.
We do prefer that people join to discuss their situation directly with us rather than us havingto ask lots of questions then you go back to get the answers then come back and post them here which then might trigger further questions. Please ask your friend to join our community so that we can help him.
Thanks SeasideSusie. I understand that but he’s an older chap and unlikely to join. I have said about this site. He’s seeing a doctor about the results next week anyway and whilst he sent me the results he doesn’t expect anything back from me. I was curious really. The ft4 is low and the ft3 higher so I wondered if he had levo and is a good converter, what would happen. In such a situation and really what it would be classed as.
he could benefit from vitamin D3 with K2 for sure 🌱
hi Yeswithasmile
Ferritin 343 (30-400) B12 279 (145-569)Vit d 31 (75 - 200)
The vit d is definitely deficient with those lab ranges
The b12 is worth treatment trial as the Nice guidelines advises to trial treat on symptoms
The t4 needs treating too
good luck for your friend
thanks Delilahmy.
I thought his b12 wasn’t too bad. You see a lot lower especially with the vit d result. Admittedly he could do with supplementing it but it was the ft4. I thought if you gave someone with these results levo, surely their ft3 goes up and may take it over? I’ve only been used to low ft3 so this is not something I know about.
hi Yeswithasmile ….. yes I also thought t4 concerning and vit D in his boots ….. everything has to be good ranges and not just in range but optimal ….. sometimes the ranges are barely enough to keep us alive. The Nice guidelines say to treat symptoms even if in range … at least to trial for improvement. I’m still learning about the needle in my haystack so just look at all possibilities… the knowledge here has been invaluable to me …. Good luck to everyone here …. My saviours xx
finding the right path is tricky but I have only focussed on my own bloods really well and that of not converting well. However this is a bit different. He obviously converts pretty well and his tsh isn’t high. So in this situation I wonder if reducing tsh by taking levo makes enough difference to conversion to ft3 and takes you over range. Not so straight forward as me.
Those full blood count results point to anaemia - low red blood cells and Haemocrit. High MCH. If I were your friend I would get a full iron panel done (12 hour fast beforehand, no iron supplements for a week before). Vit D is certainly poor and needs improvement.
How old is your friend?
Hi.
He’s early 70’s.
Strangely there was no iron panel so I did mention getting one done. But yes the full blood count looks like some sort of anaemia but that’s as far as I got with it. I thought I’d post to see if anyone else found it interesting and could comment.
As I mentioned, he is seeing a doctor on Wednesday and said he would keep me posted on what transpires from that meeting.
I said that it’s beyond my pay scale but it’s intrigued me so I thought I’d ask others on here.
B12 result 279 mU/l (Range 145 - 569) this would indicate
That it’s 279 is approx 49.03
as a % of the stated range … so maybe room to improve the b12 levels ….
revised figure as got it wrong
I think
oh yes. There’s room for improvement. You’re right there. It just didn’t concern me as much as some of the other results. 😊
I keep looking at all aspects of my results and think from advice gleaned here too - that they need to work together …. So many overlaps in symptoms …. I’m looking for the optimum ….
There are and it can be tough to work out under or over medication too.
My friend is one who is a bit sceptical as he has been let down by doctors just like so many of us but he’s also got used to feeling rubbish to a certain extent. He’s one that thinks the doctor knows best really. He passed me his results and isn’t asking anything from me but I admit I became intrigued by them.
I’m like you and all of us on here looking for optimal. But I find there are people that can’t seem to open their minds to taking complete control of their own health. I wonder if it’s just too scary for them 🤷♀️
Good luck with your journey x.
The GP will probably look at the TSH and say no further action. but the FT4 at the bottom of the range could be central hypothyroidism?
I did wonder but I also wondered how come conversion was so good? If his ft4 was higher at some point he would be hyper maybe but with a normal tsh. Possibility this is a transient low of ft4 so to speak. Or temporary higher ft3. Not enough data to know but symptoms definitely say something has been going on for a long time.
Then I notice it’s a serum b12 test, not an active b12 one so I’m wondering about PA with the FBC results. Also he sent more results and the FBC is completely opposite on the ones done the following day. Does make you wonder about the sample and the lab 🤷♀️
Be very interesting to find out what the doctor says.
