hi all,
Can anyone advise the difference between NDT and Thyroid Granular?
Many thanks 🙏🏼
Thyroid glandulars are made from the whole thyroid gland, it's classed as a food supplement with no declared hormone content so it can be sold without prescription. Some people do well on them, for others they aren't helpful at all.
NDT is processed with set amounts of thyroid hormones T4 and T3 and this requires it to be a prescription item. The ratio of T4:T3 in NDT is approx 4:1 and this ratio suits some people but others may find they need a different ratio and combining synthetic Levo and T3 works better for them.
thank you SeasideSusie, I was on thyroid granular before I switched (delivery issue from US) to T3 t4 and then slow release t3. And T4. Both of which I’ve not done well on. I’m on compounded NDT trying to replicate how I felt on granular and Levo but am not winning and thinking about rolling back to granular as the postage issue is resolved. I thought granular was the same as desiccated.
Every time I try increase my NDT by a 1/4 I feel horrendous. I was on 65mcg x 3 granular before with 100 Levo and had good range t3 at 5.6 and t4 was slightly over at 26. But I felt good.
Best way to roll back?

Best way to roll back?
I'm afraid I can't advise, I didn't do well on NDT and have never tried glandulars. You know where you felt best and what makes you feel worse, so why not go back to what you were taking when you felt best and see if it takes you back there.
P.S. It's glandulars, not granulars, as they're made from the thyroid gland
NDT is sold as a medication with declared levels of T4 and T3. It is a prescription only medication in the UK.
Thyroid Glandular is sold as a supplement. It has no declared levels of T4 or T3. This means that it can be sold in the UK as a dietary supplement and no prescription is needed.
Some folks do well on NDT; some folks do well on thyroid glandular; others take T4 and T3.
