Positive experience with Private GP

Hi all - for the benefit of anyone else dithering over trying a private GP... I've just had a really positive experience. She confirmed I have Hashi's (which has got a little worse/more antibodies since my previous bloods 6 months ago), we discussed treatments and she is prescribing a trial of NDT.

I know it's not going to be like flicking a switch and feeling better straight away, and that NDT doesn't suit everyone, but this feels like such a HUGE step forward.

Quick history recap, I'm "completely normal" (insert eye-roll) according to the NHS with a TSH around 3 (that was actually lower this time...) and suspect this has been going on a REALLY long time.

Also a HUGE THANK YOU, It's been quite a difficult 6 months and I've had so much help from people on the forum, not least the book recommendations I've picked up! I'd love to be able to pay it forward to anyone else in my position.

Happy to answer any questions (private GP's details by PM only of course and I have asked her permission to do that).

Thank you for the update and I'm pleased you have been able to start treatment.

On the subject of private GP's I saw one a few years ago when I got an iron infusion, and during my consultation she did explain that they could prescribe 'anything'. I think at the time I was so flaked out having lost a lot of blood in an operation that went a bit wrong I didn't really think much more about it at the time.

I'm glad this has worked for you and hope you make some progress now.

That sounds really traumatic. Honestly I need to make notes about key points at the best of times in a medical appointment so it's not surprising you weren't in a position to take everything in. Thanks so much for the good wishes, that means a lot :)

FoggyThinker That is amazing news. Can I ask are you in the UK? How did you go about finding someone / choosing a suitable provider? (please DM if this isn't allowed).

Hi Ebx,

Thanks! Yes, I'm based in the UK; so I requested the Thyroid UK practitioners list and looked through for someone who matched my requirements (prescribing NDT and considering Adrenal health) then I checked out their websites, looking for general approach and pricing structure plus likely costs. I approached it like a mini-research-project!! Happy to DM you a weblink if you'd like. This is based on only 1 appointment but it was so nice to feel heard :) as well as treated

Hiya, oh wow that does sound like a lot of work, but it'll be worth it though if it helps you. Can you DM me with where you went with in the end please and also an ish cost? Am curious to know. Cost is the biggest factor of course, but I'm banging my head against a brick wall atm with my pretty terrible GP practice. Thanks!

Foggy thinker, I can totally relate to the issues and frustration you’ve been feeling. I too believe that I’ve been troubled by an under active thyroid (with Hashimotos) for years and have benefited hugely from the benevolent advice on this forum. I’ve changed quite a few things in a short amount of time, including stopping HRT, starting Metavive, working hard to optimise vitamins and adopting a strictly gluten free diet and am experiencing modest improvements. However, many symptoms persist and, actually, I’d really like a formal diagnosis (and treatment). So, if you could share details of the private GP who helped you, including an outline of costs, via private message, I’d be extremely grateful. Thank you.

Hi FoggyThinker, that is amazing you have found a doctor who listen to you and I am having a hard time with my GP. Could you please share your private GP name and address and price for consultation. Thank you.
