growth hormone replacement

hi, my daughter is 18 and on 75 and 100 levo alternating between the dose daily. She hasn’t felt right for at least 3 years since she was first diagnosed and sometimes struggles with day to day life. Energy levels are often low and she struggles with aching limbs and insomnia.

Her growth hormones are half the normal level (don’t have the figures to hand) so she has just started growth hormone replacement injections today, 0.3mg, just wondering if anyone out there has gone through a similar thing? Seeing her start them today is a little daunting, another thing to remember to do everyday whilst making sure they are kept at a certain temperature 🫣so I’m just hoping they have a positive effect and no side affects🙏🏻

I had HGH injections for a couple of years, and the results were just wonderful. No side-effects. Wish I could still afford them!

do you know her FT3 levels? If she isn’t converting that could be the problem.

how is her diet? Is she managing sugar intake?

Remember that teens body clocks are a bit skewiff anyway. I read a teen brain psychology book that explained on a human development level we would have put teens in charge of the early shift night watch of our camps.

Both my teens turned vampires and couldn’t sleep till 2-3-4am and then slept till lunch if given the opportunity.

They have to work super hard to get into a good routine. Eating at the right time really helps. Processed food, sugars and alcohol don’t help but are inevitable for my two at Uni. Doing sport and keeping active in the day seems to help with increasing physical tiredness and they get fewer aches if they do more regularly.

Hope it goes well with HGH. 🌱

Yes, there was some talk years back that teens should be able to start school a few hours later in the mornings and go home later, as getting up is genuinely difficult for them. I think it's a great idea that should be implemented in a perfect world.

As an A Level teacher I couldn’t agree more. 🌱

Thank you for your reply 😊Her diet could be better, but she has cut down on her sugar and processed food intake. Agree with trying to keep her active, although it can be challenging at times lol! She actually plays football, which gives her a real lift, although she does struggle at times with aches and pains, we have bought a muscle gun and do regular leg massages to try and help with this.

brilliant, sounds super healthy, hopefully all going in the right direction. Isn’t it brilliant these kids know so much about their health at 18 hopefully Gen Z won’t be fobbed off by their GPS like we have been. My daughter was always very crampy and likes tiger balm, I’ve got her on the magnesium too, that helps. 🌱

Thyroid2212,

Did your daughters TSH raise when she was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism? Both TSH and growth hormone are secreted from the pituitary and I have read that hypothyroidism can be a secondary condition to GH deficiency but equally medicating GH can reduce T4 levels, so a kind of bi-directional play.

We need both ACTH and GH pituitary release to raise cortisol from the adrenals. Her cortisol levels was quite low in a previous post. What was the outcome of her insulin test? Has she had the cause of pituitary failure established? Has she had a pituitary scan?

She will need thyroid hormones levels monitoring after introducing GH so ensure she asks for thyroid tests.

Thank you for you reply. She had a pituitary scan and it appeared normal. The endo thinks it’s probably from her banging her head on a tiled floor about 6 years ago. Her cortisol level reached a max of 490 pmol/L. I’m not sure about her TSH level in the early days, I didn’t really understand it all back then and just left it to the doctors, it’s only after several years of her not feeling any better than I found this group and now try to get a better understanding of it all😊
