Drops or spray iron/ferritin recommendations

Though I am now a 3 portions of black pudding a week sort who has really struggled over the last 5 years to get ferritin blood levels at 70. I have tried various supplements like ferrous fumarate pills on alternate days but they are too aggressive for me actually making me sick at times, so thought I’d try a spray. Better You spray just arrived I I presumed would last me 6 weeks or so as the packet advertises ‘48 daily doses’ to find the container says ‘ 4 doses a day’ ie 12 days worth…so a bit of a rip off ( though the cheapest online). Amazon have then managed to attach a large sticky label over the back of the packet making impossible to see or get to the instructions or contents: I had not expected baked apple flavouring! Anybody got any better value etc suggestions for spray/drops in Uk to raise/maintain ferritin levels please?

My hubbie is using the better you iron spray and the packet instructions and online say that 4 sprays collectively is a daily dose….my understanding is the bottle contains 48 days of 4 sprays each day…..ie the bottle contains 192 sprays.

must have been a much bigger bottle than I found online… do you remember how much it cost, or where from? If I find it good might invest in something that lasts longer!

He's on the 5mg dose one...red label on a small bottle of 15ml cost about £10.... the bottle out of the box is only about the size of a pack of polo mints...can get in some supermarkets, Holland and Barrett, boots or direct on Better You website.

I was intrigued about what you had said before and looked up the Better You site directly. I seem to have got the same product with outer packaging as illustrated, but no mention of 192 sprays. Mine was £6.50ish from Amazon with free post and packaging. I am wondering if there was something wrong with the printed instructions on the bottle, a ‘second’, with first class contents. Mine appears to have faint stamp ’02V0204 BBE0224’ on bottle and outside packaging.

Not sure if you can find Thorne brand iron but this stuff is gentle and worked fast. Never had any side effects. Took 100mg worth every other day and within weeks brought ferritin up from 19 to 57. Now I'm taking it on a regular schedule to bring it up to the optimal range but the difference between 19 and 57 was dramatic.

Hi, is the Thorpe iron a spray or a tablet? How quickly does it work? Best wishes.

They are small thin easy to swallow capsules. I noticed improvements within the first few weeks like no more waking with anxiety panic and better sleep. Within four weeks I was able to walk without dizziness.

Thank you. So what is this supplement called exactly? Thorne iron capsules and do they give a dosage? From Amazon or?

Please look up The Root Cause Protocol on the internet to find out why you should not take supplemental iron. The Protocol will help with activating your iron recycling system. Most of us take in plenty of iron, in fact too much as it’s added to so many foods. We need to make our iron functional and bioavailable not take more non bioavailable supplements. In many cases we need copper to help recycle the iron we already have in our system.

metformin and omeprazole do inhibit absorption of some minerals/vitamins . . . but maybe B12 . . . .not sure about iron.

Didn’t know metformin causes problem with iron absorption, which I have taken twice daily for 20 plus years.

check it out online. I also take omeprazole though, double whammy

I take 3 arrows simply heme. It doesn't interfere with other supplements except still need to separate calcium and claims not to interfere with thyroid meds! I just change the capsules as they are made of gelatin and make me bloat.

I’ve found spatone gentle & also tolerate iron bisglycinate. I also find eating liver once a week helps, but perhaps you feel about liver what I feel about black pudding

I can’t tolerate ferrous sulphate

Liver is the devil’s food…even the smell makes me gag, texture disgusting and taste horrendous, fortunately black pud is good tho not all brands!

garlic makes all the difference 😁 lots of it with. Ground ginger, cayenne, lemon juice & salt… just can’t bring myself to try black pudding

True .. i tried really hard to disguise it in teeny tiny bits hidden on a pizza for some little kids in 1991.. i swear if those kids go to my funeral they will STILL be saying "that woman tried to get us to eat liver pizza"

I take on alternate days optifer heme iron (the one without folic acid) and ferrodix (gentle iron in liquid form). So one day I'll take optifer, the next ferrodix etc. Having an iron panel test this week so will see what difference they have made but I'm feeling good. And no stomach or constipation issues unlike with ferrous sulphate that the doctor suggested. I read here that you can take heme and non heme together because they use different pathways, and taking them a day apart gives the body chance to absorb it so your levels go up quicker (as well as being much cheaper!). Hopefully I'll see one improvements next week.

Sorry the liquid gentle iron I use is ferrosix not ferrodix. I got it and the optifer from Amazon.

I'd stick to the black pudding to be honest. Rapidly losing faith in supplements.

3 lunches a week is enough! But yes it has been far the best to raise ferritin Leo’s that we’re otherwise struck at 50, but can’t get it above 70 and hair falling out in clumps( tho might be a Long Covid symptom).
