I wonder if any of you have suffered what I am at present.
I have been taking liothyronine 5mcg once a day for 4 months or so along side with levothyroxine 50mg a day (before I was taking levothyroxine only 70mg a day).
I have gradually felt a bit hyper and then got nausea, felt unwell in myself with some headaches...but now it is getting worse and feel unable to work at present.
Please let me know.

Do you have your most recent blood results to share with us?
Have you recently had bloods for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3? Low levels of these can mean we don't tolerate thyroid hormone well, especially T3. We need OPTIMAL levels to feel well.
Do you have Hashimoto's? If so it might help to trial a gluten and possibly also dairy free diet.

I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Nothing else was mentioned by GP and now I see a private consultant that gave me T3 but I find it hard to communicate with him. No other tests apart from those below were requested.

Your TSH is far too high. As SD says ask for a 25mcg dose increase of Levo. On T3/T4 combo treatment to feel well most peoples TSH is suppressed.

what are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after any dose change or brand change in levothyroxine or T3
You’re on very low dose levothyroxine/T3 …..likely in need of dose increase
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)
When were vitamins last tested
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
Ideally you should split T3 day into 2 or 3 doses before test and take last dose T3 Approx 8-12 hours before test
But if only on 5mcg and cutting 20mcg tablet into 1/4’s that’s not really feasible

My latest blood test is attached. It was done last week.
I see a private specialist and hope to speak to him tonight as I still feel quite unwell and not been able to work. He has not mentioned other tests to be taken.

Your results show you are very under medicated
Request 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine and retest in 6-8 weeks
On levothyroxine plus T3 you would expect TSH around or below one when adequately treated
Approx how much do you weigh in kilo
Very unlikely you ever needed dose levothyroxine reduced when T3 was added
Meanwhile you need to get vitamins tested
Vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

I do not take supplement as I am not sure what the best one are and the market is confusing. The consultant never guided me on this.
I was looking at taking menaupace as I am 57 and thought it could help? or can you recommend others?

No other medication or supplements within 2 hours
Some like HRT, PPI, iron, magnesium not within 4 hours of levothyroxine
You need vitamin D, folate, B12 and full iron panel test for anaemia including ferritin

Yes I take my meds both levothyroxine and liothironine on empty stomach with water and wait 1 hour and often more because I cannot eat as and when at work.
I also take limecycline (antibiotic) at the same time for alopecia but the dermatologist told me it was fine to do so. I have taken it for nearly a year now and hopefully will stop soon.
I take no other supplements.
I just been under general anestetic for the removal of 2 wisdom teeth. I never react well to aesthetic and after 2 days when I still felt full of nausea, headache , no appetite and generally not myself I thought it was the aesthetic but I do not think it is. I had felt the same a few weeks back but less intense and it had subdued.
I am not sure if i have autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto’s). I will ask the consultant.... I think it might be.

You absolutely can NOT take any other medications at same time as levothyroxine and T3
That is likely the source of the problem
Move antibiotic to bedtime
Anaesthetic can significantly reduce B12 levels
On levothyroxine and especially on levothyroxine and T3 we MUST test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin at least annually
Many, many thyroid patients need to supplement continuously to maintain OPTIMAL vitamin levels
Come back with new post once you get vitamins and thyroid antibodies tested
Thank you. I had asked both my Endo and Dermatologist to confirm that it was ok to take the limecycline with my 2 thyroid medication in the morning and they said yes. I am so confused with it all. I will ask again and move it to the evening anyway from now.
In your view will I still need to increase my levothyroxine or the problem will subside after a while of taking limecycline in the evening.?
I will tell all this to the consultant and mention the vitamins and thyroid antibodies test and advice on vitamins supplements.

Levothyroxine is an extremely fussy hormone and should always be taken on an empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after

If vitamins not deficient, you will need to self supplement to maintain optimal levels
