Thyroid feeling sick

I have a lot of muscle pain in my back, aching finger and joint pain, for the last 2 days I have felt extremely like going to be sick, hot sweats feeling of agitation, trigger finger, bowels open 2/3 times a day, trembling. Feel worse after eating dinner at evening time.

I felt last night as though I was going to die as started shaking, not nice at all. I’m waiting for a blood test , can’t get one before 9am until July 5th at the docs, going away this Sunday for a week and feel rubbish.

I have had Hypothyroidism for 30 + years and have occasionally felt similar to this but not as bad. I take 75mcg a day, same brand, same time before food or drink I have some Esomeprazole for gerd but don’t take on a regular basis only as and when.

I believe I’m over medicated so haven’t taken thyroxine today, so far so good apart from feeling slightly sick but I need to keep the same levels as the blood test isn’t going to show a true picture. Any ideas anyone please? Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry you are feeling unwell greenfingers.

Previous posts indicate

December 7th 2022- TSH 0.93 ( 0.27-4.2), Free T 3 3.89 (3.1-6.8) Free Thyroxine 17.3 ( 12-22)

January 12th 2023- TSH 8.73 ( 0.27-4.2), FreeT3 2.7 (3.1-6.8) Free T4 14.9 (12-22)

I would not stop your Levothyroxine as you are under medicated thyroids wise. I’ve found that symptoms of under and over medication can be quite similar. Likely you will need an increase in thyroid medication to get TSH under 2 and FT3 and FT4 higher in range.

Have you tested ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D levels recently? Having these optimal will support your thyroid health.

Thanks for replying, yes all the others seem to be ok.

It may be helpful to share any vitamin tests, as ‘ok’ may not be optimal.

I’ll get them checked out, thanks.

I think the TSH of 8.73 was the fact the testing company didn’t receive my test in time, it was delayed in the post! As the following one read completely different from the doctors.

Could you do a private test rather than wait until 5 July if you think your levels have changed? I often experience’ hyper like’ symptoms when my levels need adjusting and invariably I require more, not less thyroid medication.

Private testing is only worth doing if you are taking your usual dose of Levothyroxine.

I could be as we are going away I’ll have to wait now.

"Feel worse after eating dinner"- What are you eating? Any gluten or high FODMAP foods and spices such as garlic and onion powder?

I didn’t take any Thyroxine yesterday and was fine, no problems at all. Today I’ve taken 50mcg as opposed to 75 mcg daily. Back pain started and heartburn too. I don’t believe it’s anything I’m eating to be honest. I’ll see how I go this next week. Thanks for replying.

This is a very common phenomenon. Its just that you are not on enough Levo at the moment and will improve when you are closer to your optimal dose.

Many people have found that temporarily stopping Levo can make them feel better. It doesn;t last though and then you are set back for longer time than for however long you have stopped it. Its very misleading.

I have heard this before, thanks.

Have you tried splitting the dose? Half in the morning and half in the evening? Just a thought. Sending a hug.

Have you ever had fasting morning cortisol tested or had a potassium test where levels were high? Cortisol, potassium, and sodium should be tested early morning and fasting.

Something to consider in addition to the great advice already given.

When i've felt 'intolerant' to thyroid meds as you describe, it has been due to poor vitamin status, especially B12 & folate and iron. Thyroid medication also revealed my adrenal insufficiency with the symptoms you describe.
