Just a post to thank everyone who advised on getting puppies while hypo. The responses were amazing, and I loved hearing how many people have found comfort in their pets. I really appreciated everyone’s insights and advice
In total I counted 14 in favour of 2 dogs, 11 in favour of 1 dog and 2 posts cautioning against a dog while hypo… So all in all a puppy is definitely on the cards!
count me in an extra 2 puppy person! We have a golden retriever and walking her regularly has been an enormous pleasure and benefit over the last 8 years. Can’t recommend enough…… but do make sure you have someone who can have them if you want to go away!
Good luck. I think we would all like photos when you have got them!
We retired to Crete in early 2004. We discussed having a dog but decided against it thinking it may be difficult with guests in the letting villa if they didn't like dogs !
A few months later we awoke to find a beautiful bundle of fluff shivering under a chair in the garden. She was about 6 weeks old .... A visit to the vet soon had her sorted for free - and so Demelza joined us for the next 13 years. She remained the most grateful dog and brought us constant joy. Having an olive grove gave her great freedom and enjoyment - no local cats allowed !!
We miss her terribly and would still be in Crete if she had not slipped away. She was hypo and always knew when I was having a bad day !
The Visitors book in the Guest House was filled with love for Demelza - we need not have worried !
Without doubt have a dog and enjoy those special moments. Think I would only have one - the training had to be consistent and it was demanding. Did it from a book I was given and it worked well. Should have read it when I had the children !!
would love to send you the videos we have had but can’t upload them here sadly. Their mother has collie in her tho so we are very happy about that! I’ll show you the mum…
