Hi, I just want to thank everyone for their advice on here. I have been experiencing lots of hypo symptoms over the last 2 years, GP saying it was depression, after the advice on here I had the full thyroid test with medichecks, results below
Thyroglobulin 614 (00.0-115)
Thyroid per oxidase 220 (0-34)
TSH 5.83 g0.27 -4.20)
B12 140 (25.10-165)
Folate 8.67 (2.91-50)
Ferritin 58 (13.00-150.00)
CRP marker 5.45 (0-5)
I went to GP yesterday and he has given me 50mcg levothyroxine to start with, I know this is just the start of getting dosage right etc but feel like a weight has been lifted just the fact that they have listened now, I wonder many people go away thinking they are imaging their symptoms or it is something else!
As my CRP is raised, will this come down with the medications? Thanks again you heroes out there!!

CRP is an inflammation marker, it's possible that it's raised due to the Hashi's.
Your B12 is good.
Folate is low and should be at least half way through range so you can supplement with a good B Complex containing methylfolate for that, eg Thorne Basic B.
You could do with improving your Ferritin level, it needs to be at least 70 for thyroid hormone to work. Eating liver once a week will raise your level, maximum 200g per week due to the high Vit A content.
You should really have Vit D tested.
And for the Hashi's, adopting a strict gluten free diet and supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily can help reduce antibodies.
Thanks Susie, I am trying to go gluten free, bread and oats but can't resist the odd biscuit in work! I had my vitamin d tested a few months and it was ok because I take a supplement. I am still on iron tablets and this has come up from 29,don't like liver though,. I will start taking selenium and basic b for folate, thanks again
Yes the CRP will be raised due to inflammation - usually present with Hashimotos - although not always. So glad you have been started on treatment and I am sure you know to be re-tested in 6 weeks time and to have your dose adjusted.
Are you doing anything else to support your health - supplements ? - Diet ?
I am sure there are 1000's and 1000's of people who slip through the net and remain unwell due to the very inadequate Thyroid Testing - just the TSH tells us diddly squat. That is how the Western Medical Model likes it as they can prescribe loads of other pills and potions for each individual symptom caused by the Thyroid - sadly .... Glad you have started your journey and now for lots of reading
Thanks Marz, it's crazy isn't it, I have been to GP over last 5 years with other things which I am sure have been related to this and like you said they just dish out other meds and potions. I have been trying to cut out gluten but struggling a bit with this as I am trying to introduce my family to it so I'm cooking lots of different things but so far not working! I need to get more organised and hopefully my energy will come back up in due course and I can get movitated, thanks again
Do you have a Spiralizer to make courgetti ? Also cauliflower cous cous ! I have five grandchildren and one family are gluten free - so it can be done. Most processed foods contain gluten and they are mostly nutrient poor 😊
It can take some people quite a time to feel the benefits of being GF - so don't despair ...
Just discovered a recipe for cauliflower crust pizza. It seems a bit labor-intensive-as after cooking the cauliflower you have to rice it. Where do you get cauliflower rice? (I'm in the states.) I'd like to try making it. I bought a frozen cauliflower crust pizza. GF and had healthy ingredients except for too much sodium. The crust tasted great. Would like to simplify this recipe and make my own. Didn't know there was pre-riced cauliflower.
Not sure there is - I chop and pop raw cauluflower into the food processor - mine is small so do it in batches - press for a second or two and check. I call it cous-cous but I believe some call it rice. I stir fry onions and garlic in olive or coconut oil - add garam masala - then fold in the cauli and keep stirring - do not let it over cook.
Am sure there are recipes for cauliflower piazza crust on the internet. David Perlmutter - Mickey Truscott - et al ...
Wow ! - living in Crete for the last 14 years has left me very out of touch with UK supermarkets ! Happy whizzing up my own ! Spend so much time chopping - slicing and whizzing - the joys of retirement !
Thanks, Marz. Think I will try making my own. Forgot about the food processor. Mine is big and now there's only me so don't use it very often. Maybe will look for a smaller one. Would rather make my own; can control ingredients-esp salt. 😊
Dr David Perlmutter is a doc I follow. His late father was an excellent neurosurgeon. I worked in the same OR where he did surgery (Mount Sinai Med Center in Miami Beach in the 60's and sometimes was assigned to his cases. I met David one Sat when he was a boy. His dad brought him to the hospital to make rounds and brought David to the OR so those of us working could meet his son. Dr Perlmutter was also a good teacher as he operated. He died, bty, I think a few years ago from Alzheimer's. Which is why I think David is so interested in brain health.
