I recently had some blood tests done at my GP surgery as requested by my endocrinologist (I haven’t been diagnosed with any thyroid condition or on any thyroid medication, but I have to have it monitored every year along with several other blood results due to having Turner Syndrome) however I have to have the blood tests repeated as these blood results came back with strange liver results, several of the tests missing and some unable to be tested properly due to issues with the blood sample taken as well as there not being enough blood taken for the lab to complete the tests needed.
I was due to have the bloods retaken today however I have had to cancel due to being very unwell this week and testing positive for Covid, and am currently on a 7 day course of steroids due to a flare up of my asthma because of this. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with blood tests after Covid and whether that may cause any potential issues with false or misleading results, or advice on how long roughly I should ideally wait before getting these tests rebooked? Due to the strange liver results I am keen to get them done as quickly as possible, in case there are any issues that need addressing and so that I can get the results to my consultant, but I am also keen not to have any false or misleading results caused from Covid that may cause unnecessarily alarm or cause something to be missed if I have them done too soon after I am better!
I had COVID beginning of November.A week later my liver enzymes went up and went back down 4 weeks later which is normal with infections. Which tests need repeating?
I believe at the very least it will be a full liver screen repeated, a full blood count as that wasn’t done by the lab due to a lack of blood sent off, and FT3 and 4 should have been requested but appears not to have been… Serum TSH level was done - 3.47 (range 0.27 - 4.30) as well as Se thyroid peroxidase Ab conc - 6 (range -35), I am however thinking I should ensure these are both repeated as it will have been at least a couple of months between the tests and I assume that all the thyroid readings should be all from around the same time in order to interpret them all correctly? I would also be keen to check my TSH out again too as it appears to be heading towards the higher end of normal, and from past results I’m usually in the 1’s for TSH!
I've had 3 FBC since COVID and my levels are dropping. No idea if it's due to COVID or my ongoing iron levels My thyroid results where all over the place before and after covid so unsure if it affects the results.Im still trying to work it all out. I suppose you can never know the effects of covid on the body. Hope you feel better soon.
It’s all so confusing isn’t it! Hope you can get some answers too! 4 weeks doesn’t sound like a bad idea though, and given that the earliest appointment they could give me to repeat the bloods was 3 weeks later, I’m guessing I wouldn’t be any sooner anyway with the current situation! I might see if I can email my endocrinologist’s secretary and see if there is any recommendations their end, and I’ll ensure that they’re aware of me having had Covid when I do get the tests done and forward the results to them.
Thank you, definitely improving so hoping I’ll be feeling better soon!
after Covid vaccination early this year I had a routine Thyroid test . It was the most unusual one I have had!! I had experienced quite a reaction to the jab.
I am due again for possible dose change and now have Covid . I’m not sure how long to wait but am convinced it may affect outcome .
I will leave test, at least , 4 weeks snd maybe more .
Could you have blood test for liver only as that’s the issue for you at present .
Sorry to hear you have Covid too, these winter germs are relentless this year!
4 weeks wait does seem a sensible idea… I’m wondering that too, and that might be a good way to go, however as it is such a nightmare getting hold of any form of appointment at my GP surgery at the best of times, I don’t really want to try and take up 2 appointments if I don’t need to. I will ask the question though and see if they would recommend splitting the tests and leaving the non essential ones a little longer.
Hope you’re feeling better soon, thank you for your reply!
Hi Nicki-Lou123, hope you're feeling better soon. I had Covid a couple of weeks ago and was advised by SlowDragon to wait a couple of months and retest early in the new year - my situation is a bit different though as I'm not on any treatment as yet, my TSH is in the awkward zone "high enough to make me fell ill but not high enough to let me get treated"
