I haven’t found it to be the case I’ve been on ndt 7 years and both oestrogen and progesterone are falling. I think I’m in peri menopause but as you might know it’s never a yes or no answer!

Thank you london81 for taking the time to reply. Yes its a tricky question I know as peri-menopause fluctuates our hormones for years. I cant find any info about specifically this post menopause........

Best wishes, G.

My assumption would be that it would increase both to a level appropriate for a menopausal woman, which would be lower than for a woman of childbearing years. However if hypothyroid then your levels of both would be lower than they're meant to be even if menopausal, so thyroid hormone replacement should increase both compared to their levels without replacement.

Hello Zazbag,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Yes I think it would register most likely ie elevate back up a bit. Especially as NDT is more akin to our own hormones, or deemed the most natural. And I would expect it would be the T3 that would elevate oestradiol and progesterone. I am surprised that I cant find any info/mention of it anywhere as yet.

I might send a email to Dr Louise Newson (HRT specialist) just to see if thyroid meds get a mention or factored into results or see if I can spot anything on her website.

Best wishes, G.

This is the wrong way round for your question and so it may be irrelevant but, I had to double my t3 after starting HRT, so oes/pro certainly reduce T3 availability. Whether thyroid hormones increases sex hormones is more difficult. It would seem unlikely to any great extent. I think of all the hypothyroid who need HRT to offset the effects of menopause. If thyroid hormones increased oes/pro we would be less likely to need HRT but I don't think this is the case?

Hello AKatieD,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Yes its a tricky question I realise. I know my oest/proges dropped of the radar in peri-meno then menopaused before I was ever on thyroid meds, but I noticed since 5years on specifically NDT there is a slight increase, I was just curious as I have not seen any reference to this.

Every best wish, G.
