Just wondering if anyone takes ldn along with their thyroid meds. Or if ldn is meant to be taken on its own. I remember at the start of my hair loss and the thyroid being identified a very progressive Dr mentioned ldn to me and trying it.

I took it for a while . It didn't do much for my overall condition (ME/hypo), but did get rid of the arthritic pains in my hands.

I take Dessicated thyroid at the same time as LDN. The LDN I take in divided doses. Gradually increasing my dosage.

I’m not aware of any interaction between LDN and other treatments, presumably due to the way LDN works. It’s certainly taken by many with autoimmune thyroiditis.

I’ve been taking it for about a year. At first, I was aware it lessened my fatigue very slightly (I have post-viral chronic fatigue). I’m not sure if it’s still helping me feel any better, but what it has done is brought my thyroid antibodies down into range for the first time in seven years.

But your not aware it having made any other impact symptoms wise other than the fatigue?

Why were you prescribed it. What did your doctor believe it would do for you?

With your antibodies being in range now are you noticing improvements

As far as I’m aware, it’s only had an impact (very mild) on fatigue. Fatigue is my overwhelming symptom, though since catching Covid in Feb 2020, as well as dramatically worsened fatigue, I’ve also had intermittent breathlessness, painful blood vessels in my hands and wrists, hair loss, body temp regulation issues, and headaches.

My doctor prescribed LDN to address inflammation and because it’s supposed to help modulate the immune system. The problem, of course, is that I have no way of knowing if I’d be worse now if I hadn’t been taking it.

I’ve been feeling a bit brighter this past month or so, which I’m pretty certain is due to starting HRT.

I’m sorry to give you a frustrating answer, but I’ve never known which of my symptoms have been due to hypothyroidism (I’ve never had the typical issues of constipation/ weight gain, for example), so can’t say if the reduced antibodies have gone along with any improvement there. It took about six months to reduce antibodies, while the slight reduction in fatigue was immediate.

For what my opinion is worth, if you can afford to try LDN (it’s relatively cheap, but the key word is relative), it may be worth giving it a try. Some people find it extremely helpful, though others do not; whether or not it’s helpful doesn’t seem necessarily to be linked to the condition being treated, judging from anecdotes.

Are you in the UK? I have fibro and want to trial LDN but am unsure of which route to go down. I heard you can get a private prescription from your GP or go to Dickinsons chemist in Glasgow for a consultation and they will dispense it. And of course self source. I don't want to fork out lots of money initially in case it doesn't work. Do you mind sharing how to go about it please?

Hi. Yes, I’m in the U.K. I get my prescription through a private doctor whom I started seeing to get T3 prescribed (they’re on the Thyroid U.K. list; happy to share name by private message if you’d like to know). I pay for the prescription and then order from Dickson’s in Scotland.

I imagine the cheapest option - if your NHS doctor won’t prescribe, and I’m not sure how many of them are aware of LDN - would be to book a consultation through Dickson’s. I’m not sure if you then pay for the prescription as well as for the LDN, but their consultation fee (currently £50) is less than I pay for an appointment with my doctor.

I haven’t heard of self-sourcing LDN. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, but it’s not something I’ve seen mentioned on the LDN fora I visit, and, unlike with thyroid hormones, I wouldn’t know where to start.

I appreciate it’s quite a financial investment, with no guarantee of whether or not it helps. I know it does help some with fibro, but as I said above, there are other people who seem to find no relief from it. The actual LDN is pretty cheap (£22.50 including postage for a 135ml bottle). The problem, financially, is getting the prescription. I hope you can find a way to trial it that’s affordable.

Thank you so much. I need to try something as I'm very intolerant to regular Fibro meds. Have tried all of them over the years and cant stand the sid effects. Go8ng to phone Dickinsons next week and discuss the prescribing procedure. Thanks again 😄
