Thinking out loud

Im now thinking that the severe dry mouth and dehydration could be caused by diabetes . Maybe when I added levothyroxine my body started getting rid of insulin too fast... I've heard hypothyroidism, diabetes and celiac happen together a lot. I only had one test where my glucose was in the pre diabetic level. I dont know. I've always fasted before my tests. Maybe thats giving me a false reading. Also I think I could have the MTHFR gene mutation. My body seems to love methyl b12 and methylfolate. Didnt feel anything when taking cyanocoblamin or folic acid. I wonder how my iron situation is entangled in all this. Anyways I feel like I'm getting closer to the core issues and getting past this so that's very hopeful for me....Any thoughts on this would be good. Maybe I should take B1 and inositol for insulin resistance and see if that helps the dry mouth completely go away. O

It's recommended here to take a B Complex which would contain methyls + inositol and B1 anyway. I am MTHFR and need a bit more folate than whats in a standard B complex. B vits need to balance.

MTHFR seems to be very common. I wish my doctor had brought it up sooner. It could explain a lot of nasty symptoms I have had in the past like depression and severe anxiety. I've also heard that serum b12 test is almost useless. You dont know if that's the active form or not showing up in the blood. Yea I want to find a good methyl b complex. Kind of expensive. Have to bite the bullet I guess😅

There are definitely links between diabetes and thyroid conditions. See this article for a run down: medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

It’s not uncommon for some start to experience blood sugar issues when they start taking a decent dosage of levothyroxine. It’s like having hypothyroidism can mask a co-existing blood sugar issue.

Thank you. My GP has never brought it up. I'm fairly young but dont have a good diet. I do eat gluten free now and mostly dairy free. I've had hypoglycemic episodes I think before. I've got intense hunger in the morning and broke out in a sweat. Almost like a fever. It went away when I started eating. Those haven't happened in about a year although. Probably because Im on a better levothyroxine dose? Thanks for the article.

Sadly, I don’t think many GPs know there’s a connection. And even if they do, in many surgeries you couldn’t talk about both conditions at the same visit.

When I went to get my Covid booster at my local surgery the other day there were actually notices pinned to the wall proclaiming “One symptom only per 5 minute consultation”.

thanks for posting this useful link. My blood sugar rose to pre diabetes levels at the same time as diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism. With titration of Levo cholesterol count and weight have fallen but blood pressure has risen. Wonder if reducing Levo a little will help, or if I should just concentrate on the diet and exercise!

going a bit off piste here and probably not sharing anything people don’t already know but I’ve learned recently that to truly hydrate yourself you need to drink small amount of water regularly to get it into your digestive system where your intestines can take the water it needs , if you drink a glass of water your stomach sends it into your blood stream and your kidneys send it out, it also tricks your kidneys into thinking your more hydrated than you are and affects blood pressure…

Also stress pushes your endocrine system further from homeostatis and reduces the amount of hormones your body makes and the amount of blood sent to support normal body functions like digestion and the skin… I’m not sure how relevant that is for you but it’s definitely an interesting read…

Less technical than most posts but I recently qualified as a reflexologist and have seen the benefits it has on improving blood sugar levels and some other conditions made worse by stress

there are lots of alternative therapy’s that can help reduce stress and rebalance the body and even if something could help reduce the severity of symptoms it’s worth a try :)

My endocrine system has been pushed to the limits to say the least. So much stress for a long period of time. Maybe its finally getting a break

also i just noticed you have pernicious anaemia, i explained to a friend of mine that if you don’t have enough vit d, iron and folate, your body can’t efficiently use the b12 she’s injected with and she started taking extra of the above and her hands and feet pain improved after 2 days… again just info but if it helps 😅

That's a good point. I am struggling with iron too. Low blood iron serum but high ferritin. Dont know how to fix it yet

Hi,

Have you considered Strojens syndrome? This is another autoimmune condition and can be linked to thyroid conditions. It’s whereby the body doesn’t make enough lubrication and it causes dry eyes, dry mouth and loss of mucus production. The above spelling is wrong but I’m sure you’ll find information online.

Good luck.

TTxx.

Yes I think we will test for sjogrens next appointment. Hope it's not that though. Nothing much you can do to reverse it I've read.

Hi, I have coeliac and used to get severe dry mouth and dehydration before going gluten free- perhaps you're getting some gluten contamination.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't thought it could be celiac related🤔...
