Considering Thyrovanz or other alternative. Anyone have experience of Bovine NDT?

Hi guys,

I havent been feeling great this past month. Im wondering if its the change in weather or if thyroid S is not suiting me so much (maybe due to fillers). Im thinking of trying thyrovanz or metavive (any others?)

I currently take 5 grains of Thyroid S a day. I'm going to get my bloods done soon also to see whats happening.

TIA!

looking at previous vitamin results here

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

You need to retest ….especially vitamin D as been a year since tested

Most thyroid patients need to supplement vitamin D continuously to maintain OPTIMAL levels

Government recommends everyone in U.K. supplements vitamin D October to April

Thyroid patients frequently need higher dose than rest of population

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Presumably you are Still eating iron rich foods in diet too

Hi Slow Dragon,

I was doing pretty well over summer that I didnt take my supplements. I have started on them again the past week:

D3 and K2 with Mag - 2000iu per day

Floradix tablets - 2 per day

I have a blood test on 10/11/22. Should I stop taking the supplements or see how my bloods are while on the supplements?

I have been feeling better the last 2 days and have not had to sleep this afternoon!

most thyroid patients, especially if on T3 or NDT need to supplement vitamin D and vitamin B complex continuously to maintain optimal vitamin levels

vitamin B complex, stop 5-7 days before test. If you tend to have very low folate, instead during that week take a separate folate supplement…..eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg

Vitamin D, just don’t take morning of your blood test

If you tend to have low ferritin, lots of iron rich foods

Liver or liver pate once a week. Red meat most days, plus orange juice to improve iron absorption

Come back with new post once you get vitamin results

Hi Kornish Piskie

I have tried both of these and they didn't suit me.

The thing with thyroid meds is you have to find what suits, some people find it quickly and some a long time.

The advice on here is fantastic and I wish it had have been here in 1983.

Hope this helps

Hi. Which batch of Thyroid S have you got? Have you been on it long?

Hello there :

If we accept that there is 9 mgT3 in each grain and we roughly need to find around 50 T3 just to function it seems to me you are not utilising or converting the T4 content at all.

How are your vitamins and minerals ?

If Thyroid S used to work well for you, what's changed your end and if nothing - have you started a new bottle and there is a manufacturing problem ?

There have been a couple of other posts with regard to what appears possible sub potency of certain batch numbers - do you have a batch number ?

Hi Pennyannie, I started a new bottle. Which made me think it could be a potency issue. Have to say I have been supplementing for the past week and feeling better though. So maybe it's the dark days. I'll get my bloods tested soon and we'll see. Glad I can think a bit straighter though!

Have you contacted the manufacturers saying that a particular batch number isn't working? I did, saying that a lot of people on this website were unhappy with recent purchases, and that theirexcellent product relied on word of mouth. They said they would get back to me, and haven't. The more people who contact them, the better.

Hi,

I recently started using Ancestral Supplement's beef thyroid along with my Erfa and synthroid . I'm feeling its effects but I'm not sure if its the liver or thyroid in it.

There is another member using Ancestral supplement and Metavive as their thyroid treatment.

hey there! Are you still using ancestral beef thyroid? I just started trying to replace part of my Armour dosage with it as I react poorly to some of the fillers in Armour. Im having a bit of trouble fine tuning the dosing and the timing of them. I was on 120mg Armour (2 grains) I started replacing one gain with 3 of the beef thyroid. Not sure if I should add more in the morning or afternoon. Just curious abt your experience!

Hey ,

So initially I had made the order because my doctor refused to renew my t4 prescription and increase my ndt (Erfa) due to a low TSH.

At the time of the doc meeting i was taking 120mg of Erfa and 25mcg of levo . Thankfully I had an Erfa refill left at the pharmacy so I decided to add in another 15 mg of my Erfa. Also I had a month's worth of levo pills . In total, I began taking 135mg Erfa and 6.25mcg of levo(Synthroid).

I got my Ancestral thyroid and began with 2 pills and increased to 3 pills the next day.

On my next bloodwork, I was taking

135mg Erfa

6.25 levothyroxine

3 pills Ancestral thyroid

Results : First time in my life my free t3 jumped above range. My free t4 remained the same and my TSH went below range.

My takeaway: 3 Ancestral pills is approximately 18mcg of T4 and around 15-30mg of T3.

^^^Results may vary depending on your body. I have digestive issues.

Ancestral Dosing schedule:

12pm (2 pills an hour before lunch )

5pm ( 1 pill an hour before supper)

You might find the below response I received from Ancestral Supplements useful.I also read all their thyroid reviews to see how much ppl were taking to get an idea.

"Each capsule has 30 mg of thyroid which includes all of the thyroid tissues as they exist in harmony with nature. Customers that are acclimated to taking a processed USP natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) extract such as Armour, Naturethroid or Westhroid-P are suggested to start with the week one suggested dosing from our website Ancestral Supplements > Products > Thyroid (see dosing).

Most customers can start to slowly titrate down their natural desiccated thyroid while following this suggested dosing protocol. It's important to listen to one's body and make changes accordingly. Of course, everyone is so different but we are happy to make suggestions based on what has worked for others... just ask.

For instance, those taking 2 1/2 grain (150 mg), you may wish to start with the suggested dosing of two Beef Thyroid capsules for the first two weeks while titrating the NDT down to 1 1/2 grain (90 mg). Following the dosing schedule, you would increase the Beef Thyroid to three capsules per day for weeks three and four and further titrate down the NDT to 1 grain (60 mg). If you're feeling good, continue to increase the Beef Thyroid to four capsules per day for weeks five and six while further titrating down the NDT to 1/2 grain (30 mg). If you're still feeling good, continue to increase the Beef Thyroid to five capsules per day for weeks seven and eight while either discontinuing the NDT or titrating down to 1/4 grain (15 mg).

At this point, it's about fine-tuning the right dose of Beef Thyroid for you. If you continue to increase in dose in search of the optimal dose, be sure to follow the dosing suggestions from our website. Most customers find that six capsules is their ideal dose but some will require as many as eight to ten capsules per day to feel their best. Optimal dosing is highly individualized and takes time and patience to get right. We'll always be around to help... just ask.

Weeks 1 & 2 - Two capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage.

Weeks 3 & 4 - Three capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage.

Weeks 5 & 6 - Four capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage.

Weeks 7 & 8 - Five capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage.

Weeks 9 & 10 - Six capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage.

Weeks 11 & 12 - Seven capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage.

Weeks 13 & 14 - Eight capsules daily in the early morning (or) split dosage."
