Now Trying T3 only

It's been up and down for nearly two months since starting on a bad batch of Thyroid s. When I was first put onto Levo only back in 2015 after my Thyroidectomy I became very ill. After a few months I joined this site and have been well on Thyroid snow for over seven years. Anyway, I have posted and tried Levo again just half of 75mcgto start with. The first time taking at 6.30am had me sitting on the loo all day. Last night after advice I took the same amount at night. I had no sleep at all.

I have now decided to take T3 only which I have plenty of. I started at 6am with 6.25mcg I already feel lots better even though I only had four hours sleep. The NDT which I took contained around 20 mcg of T3.

Should I take 3 x 6.25 mcg to start with, answers appreciated.

Just a thought. Was that a 75mcg tablet? The only 75mcg tablets are made by Teva and this brand upsets many members who have had several different adverse reactions to it. It's thought to be due to the mannitol it uses in place of lactose.

Hi the tablet was half of 75 mcg Merck Levo because I live in France. The thing is, I have never been allergic to anything in my life before only Levo. I can use T3 only so would like advice on how to go about it.

Have you checked to see if there is anything in the Merck tablet you could react to, thinking specifically about mannitol or lactose or acacia as these seem to be the main culprits.

I have no experience of T3 only so don't feel qualified to suggest anything I'm afraid.

I have just looked on the Merck site and found very interesting information.

They have just been fined in the French High Court for changing the formula without notification. Over 40,000 patients made official complaints about it. The fine was 4.3 million plus a deposit in the bank of 7 million. They also had to pay 3,000 patients 1000 euros each.

To answer your question, yes it does now contain Mannitol instead of Lactose.

Although I have never been allergic to anything in the past, Mannitol may be the problem. Thank you I had never heard of it before. Although Merck never got away with it people were hurt and that's inexcusable.

I tried T3 only some time back, I was reasonably ok on it, so it could be good for you. Good luck, and keep us posted please.

Hello Brightness :

What we don't know is how well you were able to convert the T4 in NDT into T3 - so i would think just replacing the T3 content of your NDT just the start.

I read we need around 50 T3 daily just to function - though also read of people ok on less and others needing more.

I think since you haven't a thyroid gland you may need less but I'm sorry and don't know the answer, all you can do is just go slow and steady.

I am going slowly thank you, second dose of T3 6.25 mcg coming up. I only had to take 2.25 grains of Thyroid s each day, so not a lot.

I take my 20mcg or 25mcg of T3 once daily as recommended by a scientist/researcher/doctor and an Adviser to Thyroiduk before his accidental death - Dr John Lowe was also an expert on T3 and he took his T3 once daily. He stated that one daily dose sent out 'waves' for up to three dqys.

I take mine with one glass of water when I awake. I feel my health is now 'normal' with no side-effects.

Thank you for your information. I only took T3 for three days and have made myself very ill. I am shaky and sick and feel bad. I am going back to Levo only for a couple of days after this T3 leaves my body. I haven't taken anything for three days and have no thyroid, so not good. I have ordered a new batch of Thyroid s from a different supplier but need to take something whilst waiting for it to arrive.

I am very sorry you have had such a bad response to T3. Was it prescribed for you or did you have to purchase it?

Was it a high dose you took? or was it due to some fillers/binders in the product? The latter query would be difficult to answer.

I live in France so no NDT here I buy my own and have been well for over 7 years. Because I have an ear tumour and was off balance and falling over, i assumed, wrongly that it was the tumour when in fact it was a bad batch of NDT. My GP prescribes every six months Merck Levo and T3. I do pick it up from the Pharmacy every month. I realise now that after taking the last batch of NDT for forty days that was the problem, not the ear. I couldn't leave the house. I posted on here for answers to taking Levo and T3. I was on NDT 2.25 grains for seven years and well. I took only two Merck Levo and was sick and ill. I have changed now to Uni Pharma. I took too much T3 one day 12.5 x 3 times, but because my body was depleted and I didn't realise I made a huge mistake. Anyway, I have not taken anything for four days now and I am starting on 75 mcg tomorrow morning. I will add the T3 later.

I have had a blood test this morning for TSH, FT3 Vit D and T4. So starting again, on the journey. I will have the results tomorrow. Sorry the post is long just wanted to inform you about my problem. Everyone has problems from time to time it just takes patience. Thank you once again for helping us.

When we are 'new' to taking replacements for our thyroid gland we may well find it takes a little while until we find the best result for us who have hypothyroidism i.e. we feel well and symptom-free.

I would trial taking one 20mcg or 25mcg T3 tablet with one glass of water when you awake and wait an hour before you eat. (p.s. 25mcg of T3 is equal (approx) to 100mcg of levothyroxine.

This is the dose I take now (20 mcg) and still feel well and have no symptoms.

I have never split a dose as Dr John Lowe, scientist and who took T3 himself without splitting. I am aware that it can be a struggle to find a dose that restores our health. He stated that one daily dose saturated all of our T3 receptor cells and the effect can last up to three days. I trialled this and it worked for me and did last three days. It might not work for everyone.

I have given up now and am not taking anything, At 76 years years old I am past trying. I have no gut problems but am running out of options now. I have never smoked, never been overweight and was a runner up until my sixties, doing yoga for forty years and swimming. All of this has keep me well and alive until my NDT bad batch. I will never be symptom-free now but thank you. I have not left the house, for nearly four months now and it's not me.
