As anyone who reads my posts will know I've been having balance problems which came on overnight in April this year. So I saw the ENT consultant on Tuesday. Had a hearing test which was good, no hearing loss. Rules out Menieres, Pressure in ear normal so they dont think its Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. In fact ears looked good. No tumours or cysts or infections .
So its not a problem with my ears. The doctor confirmed what I suspected really, vestibular migraine. Where instead of getting a migraine you get dizziness or feeling unbalanced, also known as silent migraine. I've only had 1 migraine in the last 6 months whereas before April I was getting them frequently. In my case its become chronic as I have the balance issues all the time. It doesnt come and go.
So basically discharged from ENT, I've been told treatment is lifestyle, diet, migraine preventative medication, which I've really struggled with due to side effects, and balance exercises. Which I need to do 5 minutes, 3 times a day. These can take months to work but I'm told are often very effective so fingers crossed. He also said neurology are the migraine experts so to ask for re referral to them.

Also meant to add I think I upset the consultant as I said please dont blame the fact I have Fibro/EDS on my balance problem. Everytime I see a doctor and they find out I have Fibro they put everything down to that.
I'm convinced that if I ever get a brain tumour they'll say its Fibro. I made the HCA smirk at that but the doctor looked offended lol. I dont like mentioning it to medics anymore as its just a lazy and convenient label to pin everything on. Not everything can be down to the fact I have it.
Who knew Fibro is responsible for climate change and world hunger as well 😉
Thanks for coming back to us with your news. Sparklingsunshine I had a wee wobble myself just at your description. I always for many years associated my ‘dizziness’ to low blood sugar but rather than the pancreas acting up, I now think it’s under instruction from a wonky thyroid. I know it’s wearing thin but I believe I am under-medicated at the moment and that is why the wobble has come back. It’s very disconcerting. After some chiropractic treatment my headaches disappeared but then I got what I think of a ‘silent’ migraine. In my history overwhelming panic attacks which also vanished overnight but heart pain started. I just wonder if this is not all just part of this thing we call hypothyroidism. I am just tucking all these quirks away until I can decide for myself when my medication is correct.
Have you got the anaemia sorted? I certainly get vertigo or sea legs when I'm low... I was just talking with a friend this morning and forwarded this to her...
Just looking at your old posts, you mention having low folate a while back. Have you managed to raise this yet? You may need to do that slowly and gradually. Low folate can cause odd issues. people report their level needing to be at 20 to feel well.
I'm sorry you're struggling with Fibro being blamed for everything. It's so annoying and unhelpful for everything to be blamed on one condition without ruling other things out first.
