I have all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism so my GP ran TSH and T4 tests which came back within normal ranges so I had a private test done to see if I had antibodies. This came back as positive TPO 0.50 and TG 3.7 . I went to GP today to be told although I have antibodies and all the symptoms of Hashimotos Hypothroidism I would not be treated with Thyroxine. I was told they would retest TSH and T4 but would not test for the antibodies and to hand in my private test results and then speak to the hospital when he gets the new TSH and T4 results. I just feel so deflated on antipressents and looking at a 2 year wait for a hip replacement

Welcome to the forum Kayrteegirl48.
So we can offer better advice, can you tell us more about your thyroid condition, eg ongoing symptoms and both private and GP test results (with ranges in brackets as laboratories vary with results):
TSH
FT3
FT4
If you don’t have the results from your GP test, do ask for a copy as you are legally entitled to these.
Did you check key vitamins (ferritin, folate, vitamins D and B12)? These support thyroid health, but please don’t supplement until you have tested levels first.
TSH 1.9 FT3 4.1 FT414 TPO 0.05 TG 3.7 still have all the low thyroid symptoms so dont know where to turn
Hi Kayteegirl. You don't specify what symptoms you have, but there could be something else causing your symptoms rather than thyroid, at the moment. Your Dr should investigate what is causing your symptoms, particularly if he says it's not thyroid. I've had personal experience of this and it might be a good idea to see a different Dr. to get to the bottom of it.
Don't worry if your doctor doesn't retest antibodies. If you've had one positive result - i.e. over-range - then you have Hashi's. Antibodies fluctuate all the time, but Hashi's doesn't go away.
What are the ranges for those antibodies results? Because they actually look rather low.
please add country you live in on your profile ….think you are probably not in U.K.?
Age and gender is also helpful
antibodies result TPO 0.50 and TG 3.7 TSH 1.9 FT3 4.1 ft4 14 STILL HAVE ALL THE LOW THYROID SYMPTOMS BUT GP SAYS i DONT NEED TREATMENT so upsetting dont know where to turn
please add ranges on these results (figures in brackets after each result)
TPO 0.50
and TG 3.7
TSH 1.9
FT3 4.1
ft4 14
Was test done early morning
You need vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels tested
Low vitamin levels tend to lower TSH
(TSH is all most medics look at)
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Are you female?
Approx age?
Are you vegetarian or vegan
Had coeliac blood test done?
On Gluten free or dairy free diet?
Been assessed for osteoporosis or osteopenia
all thyroid blood tests should be early morning, ideally just before 9am
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
