Supplements for iron

I have had the following blood tests:

Serum ferritin level 41 ug/L [10.0 - 322.0]

Serum folate level 23.5 ug/L [5.4 - 24.0]

Should I take some iron tablets to boost my ferritin levels and if so what dosage should I be taking?

You would need to do a full iron panel first, this includes

Serum iron

Transferrin saturation percentage

Total Iron Binding Capacity

Ferritin

If you had good serum iron and saturation levels then taking iron tablets would push them too high and may lead to toxicity. Too much iron is as bad as too little.

If the test showed iron deficiency then your GP should prescribe iron and reguarly monitor your levels.
