welcome to the forum

Please add any blood test results you do have

Are you currently taking any medication?

what exactly have you been told

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

TSI or Trab antibodies tested for autoimmune HYPERTHYROID disease also called Graves’ disease

TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested for autoimmune HYPOTHYROID disease also called Hashimoto’s

TPO or TG antibodies can also be high with Graves’ disease

Hashimoto’s frequently starts with transient hyperthyroid results and symptoms.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too

Have you had Covid relatively recently ?

Low vitamin levels are extremely common with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Graves )

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning. Watch out for postal strikes, probably want to pay for guaranteed 24 hours delivery

Hi Carolinesweets, I would definitely get your thyroid antibodies checked, as recommended by SlowDragon I was initially diagnosed with Graves, although following forum advice & testing antibodies showed I have Hashimotos & am actually under active (even though so many of my symptoms appeared hyper thyroid).

Hello Carolinesweets and welcome to the forum :

Do you have your original blood test at diagnosis and can see and share with forum members a TSH, T3 and T4 result and range ?

Do you also have any over range and positive thyroid antibodies detailed - generally written as either a TR ab : TSI : TPO : TgAB ?

I'm sorry you are feeling unwell - have you been prescribed an anti thyroid drug like Carbimazole and been offered beta blockers if your heart has been affected ?

Do you have online access and can see your blood tests results on line ?

Carolinesweets in reply to pennyannie

Please include ranges on all results

(Figures in brackets after each result)

You need all four thyroid antibodies tested to confirm Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease

TSI or Trab antibodies for Graves’ disease

TPO and TG antibodies….can be high with Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease

Ft4 and Ft3 don’t look overly high (need ranges to confirm)

What was previous beta blocker

Ok, so no thyroid antibody results there :

Do you have any ranges ?

Ranges for T3 are generally around 3.10 - 6.80 and T4 generally around 12.00 - 22.00

These results do not look like typical Graves :

Graves Disease is treated with an Anti thyroid drug to block your T3 and T4 rising higher and higher :

Since you haven't listed an anti thyroid my thinking is that your health issue is not Graves:

Graves and Hashimoto's are both thyroid auto immune disease that start off with a phase of thyroid overactivity - the only way to tell them apart at diagnosis is through which antibodies are positive and over range ;

Graves is treated with an anti thyroid drug to stop the T3 and T4 keep rising higher and higher :

Hashimoto's is not treated and the T3 and T4 fall back down into range themselves and eventually after various short lived AI attacks the thyroid becomes damaged and unable to fully support your needs and the patient becomes hypothyroid and is prescribe T4 - Levothyroxine to support the damaged thyroid.

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Carolinesweets

tsh is fully suppressed

t4 is 23

t3 is 9.9

elevated tsh receptor antibody 4

tpo is less than 1

Please add ranges on Ft4 and Ft3

They don’t look too high

Please add actual TSH result and range on TSH receptor antibodies results

High TSH Receptor (Trab) would confirm Graves’ disease

You need vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 results and coeliac blood test too
