Hi guys, this is my first post as I have been told I need to go to thyroid unit at the hospital. Dr says thyrotoxicosis, Graves' disease? Auto immune?
Please can you tell me what to expect when I get there, and is there anything I should write down so I can quote later. Quite worried about going.

It appears you have symptoms of hyperthyroidism at present which means your gland is pumping out too much and making you feel awful. They will give you a medication to lessen the symptoms.

Always get print-outs of your results with the ranges for your own records and you can post if you have queries.
Hi vbgr don't worry it's not that bad, the first thing that happens is a nurse will take your height weight and blood pressure, then you wait to be called in to see endo, recommend you take a book or mag as can be a bit of a wait sometimes. Endo will ask a few questions about your health and what symptoms you have maybe feel your neck and get you to put you arms out in front of you to check for tremors. They might send you for bloodtest so wear something you can easily pull up your arm. Has gp put you on any medication while you wait for endo appointment as it can be a few months before you get an appointment to see one.in the meantime I would suggest you read up on the thyroid as there is alot to learn this will help when you see endo. Thyroid UK have alot of information on their page about how thyroid works and the different treatments there are so this is a good place to start, then read the posts on here and answer you will learn alot from the knowledgeable members on here.Dont be afraid to ask questions as we are all here to help one another.

I have graves and got diagnosed in May 2015 . I started on 40 mg of carbimazole as on diagnosis my t4 was 86 ( 10 - 26 ) . But after a 15 month course I started to feel much better. I am now on a very low dose of carbimazole 5mg every other day . My advice would be to read as much as possible and really listen to your body as I was heat intolerant , ratty and felt like I couldn't cope with anything and couldn't do much without feeling exhausted in the early days . I thought I would never start to feel better but over time I did . Don't try and too much and try and keep stress levels to a minimum .I did find carbimazole made me feel sick at the beginning but that soon passed. Every time you get a blood test post your results on here with their ranges , numbers in brackets and people will respond . It's not a quick fix that's for sure but you'll start feeling better eventually . Good luck with it all and I hope this helps a little .

Those doc said I was 82 and it should have been 20 Is that the t4 level do you think. I didn't understand what he meant only that it was to high
I would think it's the t4 . Very similar to my first test result . How do you feel ? . T3 ranges are usually lower than t4 so I can only presume it's t4 . Are you in the uk ?
Nothing works quickly in the Thyroid world, that's how it is! I met a physio about 18 months ago and was delighted after treatment that she was no longer needing to take medication.
Looking forward to getting some treatment, maybe I will get back to normal quickly, but at the moment I have some days worse than others. Thank you for helping me being able to see the end of the tunnel
I felt completely exhausted and acted like a crazy woman as I lost it really easily and felt jittery and on edge all the time . My resting pulse was 122 bpm on diagnosis .Thank goodness that part is over . I am glad that you have a supportive husband to help you . This forum is nothing short of wonderful and has really been beneficial in supporting me and making me more confident to question my endocrinologist when needed . Also I found it really helpful to speak to members that have the same condition . Just be kind to yourself and try to do as little as possible as your focus needs to be on trying to get better . I also really struggled with heartburn and acid reflux but I drink kefir milk and that has really helped me out as my acid reflux has gone .
I have used kafir for the last two months as my tum can be difficult sometimes. This is what comes with my old age I think.
