For Those on NDT

Hi

This is a question for those who use NDT not via NHS,I'm considering not taking Levo for a while, I got much better blood results on Levo and NDT but it seems quite complicated using both and trying to get dosing right. I'm very grateful for the advice I've received.

So one kindly forum member suggested trying just NDT. Which might well suppress my TSH.not an issue for me but I'm wondering how you navigate NHS blood tests and GP' s. As we know GP's panic about suppressed TSH.

Do you tell them you're on NDT? just curious about the implications if I find NDT more suitable than Levo. Guessing its the same problem for those using T3 as well.

Hi

I decided to tell my GP that I was taking NDT, as I wasn't getting on with Levo. Luckily, she saw the improvement in my health and was very interested, said she had never heard of it, but she would read up on it. When my annual blood test comes around she puts on the request that patient is on NDT, so needs FT3 result and she doesn't seem tsh obsessed! Another GP at the surgery actually apologised to me for having to source my own meds. I think you should continue with your trial of NDT first and if successful then consider informing your GP. I decided that if the GP wasn't happy about it, I just wouldn't bother having the NHS test, and carry on testing privately.

Life is too short to seek NHS tests, that’s my experience. If you feel well on privately sourced NDT then why not have private tests. If your GPs as busy as mine, they won’t even notice.

That’s my experience too, Aurealis. I guess it depends if you need to see the doctor for anything else.

Sooner or later, it will catch up with me. I’ll need bloods for summat else and they’ll do TSH and my doctor will freak. But until then…

I told them once. They put it in my notes. They dont read the notes, not my fault. I think there must be a red warning somewhere in my file not to challenge me as my TSH comes back at around 0.02 and nothing is ever said. Mind you, nothng is ever said about any results, below or above range for all sorts of things.

My GP prescribes me Levo and T3 I see him every 5 months for renewal. He also tests my blood once a years for FT4, TSH and FT3. I actually take NDT which I source myself. He is happy I am happy I actually never lie to him I just keep quiet. This has been going on for years.
