Hi All,

Can I ask those of you that did not get on well with Levo and changed to NDT, what changes did you notice? Especially those who have had either TT or RAI.

Just curious.

Thank you.

I had RAI. I haven't changed to ndt. But I have changed from levo to a combo of levo and t3.

The reason I changed was that I was still symptomatic on levo alone as I was a poor converter.

I like the combo as I can alter both t4 and t3 to find the best levels for me.

One of the main symptoms that has gone is anxiety. Any time I needed the extra oomph to do something I lacked the thyroid hormones so adrenaline stepped in. It kept me going but it wasn't a great way to live.

I miss my get up and go. I used to be so organised, I'm so ditsy now days, I miss my brain working properly. I just can never be bothered to do anything. My eyes always hurt (but I think that's a side effect of the brand but can't take the other 2 main brands cos of side effects) and this brand makes my chest feel anxious if you get what I mean. I did take T3 for a while but can't get the brand I can take and ended up getting really ill, I just seem really sensitive to medication for some reason, just fed up of feeling crap and tired.

I am sensitive to the hormones so I take my levo in split doses. It used to be 2 doses but now I take it in 3 doses along with my lio. It has been the only way I could build up to a working amount per day.

Hello Hookie

I have Graves Disease and was treated with RAI back in 2005 and now manage lingering Graves, thyroid eye disease ( caused by the RAI ) and hypothyroidism. I was treated with Levothyroxine and with a TSH having to be in range, rather than on my health issues and prescribed anti depressants as a consolation prize.

I jumped ship and now self medicate with NDT. and also tried a combo of T3 + T4 combo:

I take my thyroid hormone medication at around 3 am in the morning and go back to sleep.

Initially I woke up relaxed and the anxiety and heavy head I lived with had gone, and my brain was turned back on again, I could think clearly and was calm in myself.

I have now been on NDT about 18 months and have been on the same dose since 2 months into this experiment and I have lost some weight though don't weigh myself but still deal with bouts of sore dry eyes and UV sunlight causes me some concern - I'm 73 so haven't the energy I once had but all in all I just wish I had had access to all this information when diagnosed back in 2003.

Hi Pennyannie, thanks for the reply. Its the brain switching back on that I need! I just feel so Zombie like and all my get up and go and organisation has disappeared and don't even get me started on my weight lol. I'm just not who I was, its really scary 😳 Have you tried different brands or did you get lucky on your first try?

I was initially on 125 monotherapy with Levothyroxine :

I started by giving myself a trial of T3 6.25 and 100 T4 : light bulb came on in my brain from the first day - I wasn't able to source the same T3 and the second one I purchased caused me massive headaches and I didn't feel well at all :

I then went back on 125 T4 for a couple of months and then switched to NDT overnight :

I've only ever been on one brand of NDT so haven't any comparison :
