Supplements - How and when do you take yours?

As I'm taking thyroid hormones,I have been trying to work out which supplements to take together and when.

Especially since I have D3, K2 and B12 in liquid form... I know certain supplements shouldn't be taken together, and within 2 to 4h hours of thyroid meds and some 2 hours apart.

My brain has lost the plot in trying to work out a regime 🤣

* Most supplements should be taken 2 hours away from thyroid hormone.

* Iron, calcium, magnesium, vit D should be 4 hours away from thyroid hormone.

* Iron should be 2 hours away from everything else except vit C.

* B12 should be 2 hours away from vit C.

* D3 and K2, if not suspended in oil, need to be taken with a fat source, like cheese, but if that is the case, should be taken separately because they will compete for the fat.

I think that's about all. :)

Hi Slow Dragon, I've had a few test done already and a full Iron panel being done.

I'm planning on supplementing

- D3 - Current test came back at 57

- Adding the co-factors K2 and Magnesium

- B vitamins - with separate B12 and folic acid near to Thyroid function test time

- I have been considering Calcium as I eat very little dairy

- Awaiting test results for Iron so don't know if I need to take this yet

I've been reading all the brilliant advice on this forum so know which forms and brands.

I just need to sit down and plan out what and when around my Thyroid medication.

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

When do you take levothyroxine

Personally I split my levothyroxine as 2 doses - waking and bedtime

(and T3 as 3 doses - waking, 3pm and bedtime)

(Alarm for 6.15am….then go back to sleep till 7am)

That means I don’t need to wait for tea/breakfast at 8am

Vitamin D mouth spray and vitamin B complex after breakfast.

If taking selenium or zinc…could add these then

Magnesium early evening, immediately after dinner

(4 hours minimum before levothyroxine)

Get vitamin D optimal, then test vitamin D and calcium together. Unlikely to need calcium supplements

Calcium rich foods include figs, salmon, broccoli and green leafy veg, baked beans etc etc

I'm on NDT 1/2 grain first thing in the mornings. I've only been on it for 5 weeks. I was supposed to increase in increments, but due to the heat and expending less energy, I've kept it at that dose. I feel like my old self again 😁

Based on your regime, I think I've created one that works for me. Magnesium makes me really sleepy so that's a bed time one for me.

Thanks for the advice on calcium. I'll do a re test in a few months after D3 supplements.
