Severe Acid Reflux and Thyroidectomy

For the past 2 years I have suffered from LPR, silent acid reflux, which makes it difficult to swallow food and I always feel like there is a lump in my throat.

I am allergic to both Methimazole and PTU and will eventually have to have a TT.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? I am so scared about having this surgery on top of the reflux symptoms.

Could you possibly tell us a bit more about yourself, please? There's nothing on your profile. Do you have Grave's? Was this confirmed by testing TSI and/or TRAB? It sounds as if your thyroid is swollen. Are you sure you don't have Hashi's rather than Grave's? When I had similar symptoms, it was due to my Hashi's (technically I have Ord's - i.e. Hashi's without the goitre but it was swollen at one point). What are your latest thyroid blood levels?

I've had Graves' for 13 years. I have my TSI checked at least once a year since 2011. I have a goiter but it's not related to my LPR symptoms.

Always test thyroid levels early morning

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Have you had coeliac blood test done

Are you now on strictly gluten free diet

Acid reflux suggests low stomach acid and poor nutrient absorption

It’s possible to have Hashimoto’s and Graves’ disease at same time

It’s ALWAYS worth trying strictly gluten free diet with Hashimoto’s or Graves
