So here I am again, hunting MP Liothyronine

Apparently it’s “out of stock everywhere” (I know 99% chance this isn’t going to be true)

I am so fed up of this…

My morning will be ringing Advantz, then pharmacies.

Our NHS is crumbling, and pharmacists “don’t have time” to do their own jobs anymore.

I wish I had a magic wand.

Sympathetic to your situation. I’m due to pick up my Levo repeat med today, specified Accord brand. Am stressed and dreading opening the package in the pharmacy to reveal if it contains the correct Brand or not.....

Hi App1, Boots also have Accord, but they call it Almus. Box is Almus, but leaflet and blister pack of pills are both Accord. My local Boots will get it in if not in stock.

My pharmacist would refuse to change it once I’d taken the bag from their hands. From then on I approached the counter with my hands behind my back until they’d opened the bag to show me what was inside… :)

Do let us know what happens. Please. :-)

No-one answering the phone at Advanz… nor local pharmacies.. all too busy. Think I’ll have to leave it until tomorrow. Have sent an email. Will let you know. So glad I have time to do this…

So Advanz replied to my email within the hour - there are no supply problems with Liothyronine. I contacted the pharmacist and passed on the news and the supplier details. This was one of several suppliers the pharmacy had already checked for supplies without success.

She tried to contact the supplier Alliance Healthcare, but said she wasn’t ‘allowed’ to speak to them - last time when I phoned them they said they weren’t ‘allowed’ to speak with me either.

I wonder who the supplier can speak with? And who sets the rules?

And if there’s a better supplier out there? And if there’s an Area Clinical Pharmacist at the end of this trail. 🤦‍♀️

Still waiting for pharmacist to come back to me about my prescription, pending the reply she receives to her email to supplier.

It is difficult to decide whether the problem is a lack of acquaintance with truth, or with competency. It’s difficult to come up with any possibly more charitable explanations.

We know that pharmaceutical companies cannot have much communication with patients. But with pharmacists?

As Alliance is part of Walgreen Boots Alliance, maybe a Boots pharmacy would be best placed?

(Mind, I suspect they have been separating Boots and Alliance as they wanted to sell Boots pharmacies off as a separate company.)

Thanks helvella, I’ve got 28 tablets now, that’s all the pharmacy have been able to get but at least they are trying again. (1MP, 1Teva, 1Morningside). It would be perfect if I wanted to play Thyroid Roulette with my life.

Boots told me they can ONLY get MP. Unfortunately I have no prescription as other pharmacy have partially dispensed my prescription now. So will have to re-enter the GP appointment lottery to get another.

Beginning to lose the plot… not sure how long to give pharmacy to complete dispensing prescription before jumping pharmacy ship and ordering new prescription.

Have you tried the pharmacies listed on the ThyroidUK website?thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...

Some of them take NHS prescriptions.

Thank you. I’m just following up on that. It’s a bit confusing the ones that take NHS and private. They don’t access the electronic prescription system do they?

The ThyroidUK list shows which ones take NHS prescriptions. I don't know about the electronic system; you'll have to ask them that.

Good luck.

Yes my pharmacy will take it back as long as I’ve not walked away from counter with the product. Good info about Boots Accord might be an idea for me to change to them next time. About a mile away.

Accord is also boxed as Almus via Boots, and Northstar 50mcg and 100mcg via Lloyds ....

but Accord doesn’t make 25mcg tablets…..so beware 25mcg Northstar is Teva

List of different brands available in U.K.
