I am going to the GP tomorrow and would like to know what my ratio is between T3 and T4 and what it should be.

Thanks in advance 😊

TSH 0.11 (.27-4.2)

T4 22.2 (12-22)

T3 4.4. (3.1-6.8)

TSH: 0.11 mU/l (Range 0.27 - 4.2) -4.07%

FT4: 22.2 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22) 102.00%

FT3: 4.4 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8) 35.14%

Doctors will likely say -based on TSH- you are over medicated and your FT4 is very fractionally above range.

If we compare % through range and can see you conversion is poor at 35%

FT4 : FT3 Ratio is another method your Ratio is 1:5 and most feel better with a 1:3.5 ratio.

FT3 should be over 65% of range. FT4 50%.

Thank you PurpleNails. I know that I’m going to have a battle on my hands. I so wish I could have gone on happily on levothyroxine only!

How much levo do you take?

Was test taken as recommended?

Have nutrients been tested?

I take 125mcg of levothyroxine

My ferritin is low but blood count not suggesting anemia so they won’t do anything about that.

My B12 was 274 and I’m taking supplements for that and for iron. They refused to do vit d test but when last checked privately, it was 80. I’m taking vitamin d as well.

Had stopped everything for two weeks prior to test. Everything done as recommended.

Hello again :

As replied just now to your post for your friend your conversion ratio is coming in at just over 5 so slightly wide of the conversion ratio which is 1 / 3.50 - 4.50 and within which most people feel at their best at around 4 or under.

In order for me to feel at my best I now need to supplement and maintain my ferritin at round 100 : folate at around 20 : active B12 at 75 ++ ( serum B12 at 500 ++ ) and vitamin D at around 100 :

You may well find your conversion improves once your core strength vitamins and minerals are up and maintained at optimal.

Conversion of T4 into T3 can also be compromised by inflammation and any physiological stress ( emotional or physical ) dieting depression and ageing, so there's a few things here perhaps to unpack.

Once optimal with ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D you will be better able to utilise and convert the Levothyroxine and you may well be able to stay on just T4 and have both T3 and T4 in range and at a better conversion ratio than currently.

It is accepted that you can run with a slightly over range T4 if this ' gives you ' a better level of T3 but you can't really know this until your core strength is restored to optimal.

Not what you're looking for?
