Pregnant on NDT, not feeling great.

Hi Everyone,

I’m currently 32.6 weeks pregnant and on 240mg of Thyroid S.

I was taking the full dose in the morning but was suffering from hyper symptoms- shaky, clammy, hot, anxious, etc.

Was advised to reduce by 30mg by one endo and was further advised by another to split the dose over the course of day with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I asked about food with the medication and was told it would be fine and tried it yesterday. Taking initial dose on an empty stomach and the rest just before I ate meals but not on an empty stomach (I have hyperemisis and need to eat something little and often to keep sickness at bay).

Yesterday however, I just couldn’t stay awake and although I didn’t have hyper symptoms, I felt exhausted.

Coincidence? Or do I need to avoid food and meds?

Iron is currently low too. Thyroid bloods as follows:

Meds: 4 grains thyroid S (240 mg)

T3- 4.4 (3.5-6.5) 30%

T4- 11.3 (10.00-20.00) 13%

TSH- 0.04 (0.35-0.5)

Taking initial dose on an empty stomach and the rest just before I ate meals , -what does that mean as a dose? How you split the doses and at what time exactly?

60mg before lunch at 12, 60mg before dinner at 5.

Are you waiting for an hour before you eat (and an hour after you eat)? If you don't wait, then the NDT will not be effective. Sorry if I have misunderstood your post.

What would your ' normal ' results look like ?

At 75 and having been self medicating with NDT for over 4 years this isn't something that I've any experience of - but maybe split your dose just twice and make sure you good time before and after to allow full absorption.
