High thyroid antibodies

Hello,

My history is 2 miscarriages in last year, on levothyroxine 125mcg. Diagnosed Hashimotos in 2016 and started on initial dose of 25mcg but have had to increase since. Coeliac disease.

Following private fertility tests since miscarriages I’ve been told I have the MTHFR homozygous gene mutation, which affects ability to absorb folic acid. I’ve been put on high dose folic acid of 5mg from ovulation but have had to stop due to side effects so am getting advice about alternative options.

I’ve just had my Medichecks results back- see photo below.

All seems in range- I need to check for T3/T4 pregnancy range recommendation (I’ve been advised 2.5 for TSH).

But the antibodies results seem high- my question is- is this reflective that my health overall isn’t great? Could this be a flare up and cause miscarriage? Inflammation result seems low. I’m not sure what this all means.

I’m considering autoimmune protocol diet but need to be careful as I’m underweight at BMI 18. I’ve just given up nuts and nut milk and it has made an immediate effect to my achy stiff hands- much improved. I’m on a low dairy diet (I don’t eat milk/ yoghurt/ cheese but don’t worry where it’s added in small amounts e.g. to bread/ processed foods. Generally my diet is good, gluten free, fresh food etc not too much processed stuff. Preferably don’t want to give up bread/ corn/ rice/ eggs/ beans/ lentils as AIP suggests but am trialling reducing eggs/ legumes this week/ last.

I have a toddler and sleep hasn’t been great for last 4 months- very broken so feeling tired generally. I’m also nervous about a restrictive diet as I don’t really have much time to prepare meals and my husband is a little fussy.

Please does anybody have any advice on whether I should change anything based on the above? Thanks in advance! X

You need vitamin D tested

Very common to have low vitamin D when coeliac and Hashimoto's

vitamindtest.org.uk

How long since you were diagnosed as coeliac?

Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be more beneficial. Especially with MTHFR gene

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Your ferritin is low. GP should do full iron panel to see if your iron is also low.

Thank you. I had Vit D checked by GP separately and it was in range. I’ll look into the low ferritin and supplements though.

Do you know if the antibody values were particularly high or just normal for Hashimoto’s treated with Levo?

Vitamin D is likely to need to be at least over 80nmol and around 100nmol many be better

A GP will say any vitamin D result over 50nmol is fine

With Hashimoto’s we need vitamin levels optimal

Thanks- is there a risk of hypocalcaemia if too much Vit D? I was told previously you can’t overdose on Vit D but due to the relationship with calcium you had to limit it, particularly if trying to conceive.

You don't want too much, or too little

Important to test regularly
