I have just had a telephone consultation with a gastro nurse , gp referred me even though I had no symptoms just decreasing Ferritin. It was a complete waste of time which I expected. He insisted my Ferritin levels were normal I tired to explain that with Hashimoto's they need to be optimal I quoted the NICE guidelines which I have taken from this site to quote what he said "the NICE guidelines are going to be scrapped soon anyway....!" He offered to refer me to endocrinologist I refused I have seen 3 on NHS recently.
Is it correct that NICE guidelines are going g to be scrapped soon?
My GP insisted I have this consultation.

The reason I ask is because we collect a lot of our back up information as directed to take to consultations... But not read about the guidelines being scrapped ...🤔
One thing I notice from that article (which is very brief) is that there is no mention of ICSs being responsible for standards in any way - they just seem to be organisations of accountants, whereas the CCGs were mainly groups of GPs and they did have a clinical role in determining what GPs in their area could do, what they could spend money on, even what they could test for. Each CCG even had their own version of the BNF - the British National Formulary - and those versions of the BNF often excluded T3 from their lists, or referred to them as "red drugs" i.e. drugs which doctors were forbidden to prescribe.
If the ICSs are not going to be responsible for guidelines in each area I wonder which organisation will be?
The idea that general practice in the NHS is going to have no guidelines to work from is absurd. We'd end up with treatments for conditions that are just old-fashioned snake oil, or the doctor's favourite hand-cream.
I'm sure there will be guidelines for GPs - but my guess would be that lots of treatments will be removed from those guidelines and referrals will be even more likely to be denied than they already are.
