Greetings, can anyone tell me if I should be avoiding any of these supplements? I have been taking them a long time and now I had half my thyroid removed and I take 75 mg levo. I am wondering if it is a good idea to continue with them.. I take all of them 4 hours away from the levo.
3 brazil nuts (not a supplement but I take them for the selenium)
Ginseng 1 tablet for energy
Ashwagandha powder 1 teaspoon (for thyroid)
D-Mannose 2.5 g (1500 mg) to prevent u.t.i.s
Melatonin 3ng (to help me sleep)
CBD full specturm oil ( for anxiety)

Hello montieth , I'm just doing some research on Ashwagandha. Apparently it's a mixed bag. Lots of info says it should be avoided if you have Hashi's and other sources talk about it depending on whether you are TH1 or TH2 immune pathway dominant. Have a quick Google search and you'll see what I mean. I started taking 550mg (5% withanolides) KSM-66 Ashwagandha 2 months ago and it would appear to not be agreeing with me. It is the only difference in my diet/environment so fairly sure it's that causing my issues. I'm also perimenopausal and have been using HRT patches for 2 years with mild side effects from time to time. I've now had to stop using it (just over a week ago) because of the huge increase in unbearable side-effects (fatigue, constipation, really bad oedema in my legs/ankles and crippling anxiety). The HRT has been making it harder for me to balance my thyroid meds and the ashwagandha hasn't helped increase my T4 levels. I had hoped it would make things better, but it seems to have increased my sensitivities and effectively made everything worse suggesting that I am TH2 dominant if I've read the research correctly. You need to be careful with it, but if you haven't noticed any adverse effects, there's every chance that it is helping you. If you're not sure, you could cut it out for three months and then reintroduce to see how you get on.
I've taken full spectrum CBD oil with no adverse effects and plenty of benefits. I personally take a 200mcg supplement of selenium (with 50mcg zinc) as the brazil nuts need to have been grown in selenium rich soil to have significant levels, and these days most soils are depleted. I can't comment on the others, sorry.
