Supplements and taking levo

I have just been diagnosed and have a prescription for 50mcg of levo. It says take them in the morning but I have read it might be better to take them at night? I currently take Mirtazapine at night (which has to be taken then) and Magnesium supplement.

I take an iron supplement with vit c in the morning on an empty stomach.

I also take B12 and B complex and vit D3. Currently in the morning.

I believe levo should be taken away from other supplements and on an empty stomach?

How do I fit this in with everything else? Can anyone share their schedule?

Keen to get started!

Thanks!

MiniMum97 Do you get up for the loo in the middle of the night, or early morning before rising? Take your Levo then. That's what I do.

Sometimes but not every night. Couldn't rely on it sadly as that would be a good option.

MiniMum97,

If you have to take Mirtazapine at night you can't take Levothyroxine at night too. You can take Levothyroxine at any time of day as long as you observe the following:

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.

Is it a good idea to try to take levo at the same time every day?

MiniMum97,

Apparently it makes it easier to remember to take meds when they're taken at the same time daily. I would shift your vits/mins back. Iron can be taken an hour or two before meals, D3 should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, and B Complex and B12 could be taken lunchtime.

Ok thanks. So could I:

Take levo on waking, wait an hour then eat.

Take b complex and b12 with lunch - could also take D3/k2 then as I am sure I can squeeze in some fat!

Take iron and vit c 1 hr before dinner, 2hrs after eating (ummm, no afternoon snacks 😥).

Mirt and magnesium before bed.

Think that should do it!

At the moment I am exhausted all the time and tend to sleep in at weekends to try to catch up. Hopefuliy that might change as I get my thyroid levels sorted but in the meantime might it be a problem if I am taking levo on waking?

MiniMum97,

That looks fine. If I forget to take my thyroid meds when I wake up I take them when I remember.

If you read the question dated January 30, 2002 it may be helpul:-

I think it is preferable if you take levo at the same time of day as you then get into a routine and not miss a dose.

Good idea to put the daily dose in a weekly pill dispenser then you can see if you miss one. It is essential to not forget.

Thank you. I already have a dispenser for the complicated array of supplements and my Mirt which I take 45/30 alternate days. Now will add levo in the mix. Might have to get a new dispenser for different times of day!!

Yep I do that. One for supplements in kitchen & one for thyroid by the bed

Yes, I think so as long as you observe the other recommendations ie take with H20 and on an empty stomach. Waiting now to have an orange to buck me up
