Swollen nodules body recovery, confused thyroid?

Throat swollen and thyroid nodule . I have been dealing with hossimotos for nearly ten years and about as many doctors trying to figure this out so I can feel my best. I finally found an NP, PA that prescribed me NP accella as manufacturer only. Ok here is where it gets weird. I was doing fine, weight normal, energy enough, but really struggling with all I doing. I had a very stressful and busy summer. We were traveling to Grandsons wedding out of state ane my tailgate slammed on my hand. I preceeded to take arnica and go on my way. After the wedding we travelled further to see son in SD. I was exhausted, and was feeling like I had a UTI. Fast forward to return home, we unloaded I was having severe pain in my groin, shoulder and hip. The next day I went to buy groceries and that is pretty much the last I remember. I was finally diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis and in a coma for three weeks. So, no thyroid meds but heavy doses of steroids ,antibiotics ,blood thinners and who knows what else. When I finally went to rehab the gave me 75mg of levo. They could not use my thyroid meds because the did not have them in their lab. It was a recovery process that was slow. I went back on NP when I came home. BUT in January my numbers were good tsh 2.8 and so on all normal range. About mid February I noticed swelling in my neck and a lump in my throat. This made me feel like someone was putting pressure on my throat. I made an apt. With Dr. Not my NP. Blood test was TSH 12.80😳 and they will be doing a biopsy on Tuesday. The doctor said to stop np it's not working and go on synthroid I am wondering if the heavy meds I was on messed up my thyroid. Maybe my body system is trying to get back to normal. I prefer NP over synthroid. I believe I do need t3 with t4. I know this is a long story but I am trying to figure this out and not sure IF there could be systemic connection. I have contacted Accella, very good customer service. They had me send my pills to them so they could test them.

If you read this far THANK YOU!

A TSH of 2.8 is not a good number for anyone, but especially not for someone on NDT. How much NDT were you taking?

1mg

Do you mean 1 grain? 1 mg would be a very small dose, because 1 grain is 60 mg, and even that is a low dose.

Sorry I thought you were asking about ldn.

Why would I be asking about LDN when it hasn't been mentioned? :)

So, you were taking 75 mcg T4, plus 1.25 grains NP? That's quite a low dose - lower than most people need - only 11.25 mcg T3 (explains why your TSH was over 2).

Now, you're taking 75 mcg T4 only, which is also a low dose. So, you've always been under-medicated, but no you're missing the T3. Have you tried asking your doctor to add 10 mcg T3 to your synthroid? That would give you a dose pretty much like the one you were on taking NP, and increase from there.

Blood test was TSH 12.80

You don't give a time-line for all these events, but you'd been very, very ill, and had your T3 stopped. So, of course you got more hypo. How long had you been back on the NP when this test was done? Perhaps it was much too soon, given all you'd been through.

The doctor said to stop np it's not working and go on synthroid

Well, he's a bit of an idiot, isn't he! Of course it's working, or you would be dead! You just weren't taking enough. Just goes to show how little he knows.

I am wondering if the heavy meds I was on messed up my thyroid.

Of course, they were bound to have an effect. And being ill the way you were will reduce your conversion, so FT3 will drop and TSH will rise. But, your thyroid was messed up long before this or you wouldn't have been on thyroid hormone replacement.

Maybe my body system is trying to get back to normal.

Not sure what you mean by this. Of course it is trying to get back to normal, but it will take some time given all you've been through.

If I were you, I'd tell your doctor to take a hike and go back on NP, same dose as before. Wait six weeks and retest. Then, increase slowly as necessary. :)

Thank you greygoose! LDN is for inflamation and mood swings. My np is 1 pill 60 and 1 pill 15 to reach 75. I went back to my np when I returned home from the hospital. Nov.25so my actual time without thyroid meds 3 weeks. I was on levo for 3 weeks. I am waiting in office for biopsy right now. I want to go back on NP but I feel I need anothe blood test full panel. I will discuss that with my doctors. I know my naturopath will ok it. I have decided to check in with the endo I am suppose to be going the first of June. I feel like I am starting the money go round again. Ugh! Wish I could talk with you in person. So many variable. I am going to totally go AIP again. And find a good supplement.
