Hi all. I recently posted about a TSH level of 4.9. 3 months later and i have just had it tested again and it's now 3. Is it normal to fluctuate that much. I don't take any miedications except a 10 weekly b12 jab.

Previous post

You were getting thyroid antibodies tested….what was the result

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis. Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

SlowDragon has given valuable advice, both today & in your last post. Just to reiterate, to offer you further suggestions, we need to see the results of T3 and T4 tests and look at your antibody levels. If you’ve had these tested, please ask for copies (which you are legally entitled to) and if you haven’t had them tested, I recommended you look to do so privately. What I’ve learned most from this forum is that ‘in range’ does not mean ‘optimal’. I feel empowered by self testing privately and following forum advice to optimise key nutrients.

I know and I'm grateful for the info. They were supposed to do the antibody test with my tsh blood on Tuesday which no one told the nurse who was doing them. So I have to go in again for them to be redone. I'll aim for a print out when I have them done.

As well as thyroid antibodies…..Request they also test folate, vitamin D and ferritin

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

You should have TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 tested but likely to need to test privately.

If TPO antibodies are negative, NHS won’t test TG antibodies

I already take a vitamin d3 and have not long finished a course of ferritin. I had these tested in jan/Feb when I has first round of the this year tested. My floaters was also done and was supposedly OK but I will get that print out when I go for my next lot of bloods.
