Does anyone know where to source T4 in the UK. Go won't increase, since being on HRT I feel undermedicated.

Thank you in advance.❤️

The only way to obtain Levo in the UK is with a prescription. It is possible to source without prescription from overseas.

How long since HRT added

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after starting any HRT

Are you taking just levothyroxine, or levothyroxine plus T3

Come back with new post once you get new private test results

turkeydinner,

Which HRT are you taking?

Hi Radd

I'm taking utrogestan tablets for the progesterone and OESTROGEL gel.

There are supply issues with the gel and it's been changed to sandrena gel in the last few days.

I think I've felt the fatigue more with the sandrena.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks 🤔

turkeydinner,

I was trying to find the NICE guidelines that stipulate Levo dose may need to be raised after starting HRT so you could show your GP but I can’t see it 🤪. Anyway, it’s written on the Levothyroxine PIL listed under “The following may affect the way that levothyroxine works’ as ‘oestrogen containing medicines for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and contraception (the ’pill’)’.

The theory being oral oestrogen causes the liver to produce higher levels of a protein called TBG (thyroid binding globulin) which binds higher amounts of thyroid hormone so decreasing the amount available for utilisation. However, even taking Oestrogel/Sandrena that bypasses the liver there's still a proportional risk of oestrogen being recycled through your body and so raising TBG.

I didn’t require a thyroid med dose raise after starting Oestrogel & Utrogestan but other members have. I loved my HRT but they stopped it after my TIA (cold turkey, grrrr ..), but now say it should never have been stopped 🙄, so I can start again. I've been hot flushing since so will be pleased to resume. Our poor bodies.

How long have you been taking HRT? Has your GP retested thyroid bloods six weeks after starting HRT? Also you may find symptoms level out as your body gets used to these new levels of o & p again. The oestrogen can initially cause us to feel a bit PMT-ish. Initially I had weight gain and then a couple of months later weight loss and a new shape with a waist back! .
