I have been unwell for the last three years with terrible pains in my lags making painful to walk more than 10 meters with out a break. I thought it was something to do with T3 but I have pinpointed to using milk alturnatives ie Oak and coconut for some reason it affect the absorption of the t4. This may be useful other members on this boards.
Also I have been taking DHEA for over 25 years and some how I cannot tolorate this any more, I am hot and itchy and it just knocks me out. All my bloods are great for my age but I have insulin resistence. I wonder if age has somthing to do with this.
Cheers John c

Oat & coconut milk should be fine regarding thyroid hormones. If there is a problem it is often the additives in the cheaper brands. Have you tried Pipers Farm Pure Oaty (water, gluten free oats, sunflower oil, salt) and Rude Health’s Coconut Drink (spring water, organic rice, organic coconut milk & sea salt,). I know some members also make their own.
DHEA reduces with age just as many hormones do. 25 yeras is a long time for supplementing. Did/do you have adrenals issues or supplementing DHEA for testosterone benefit? Where cortisol levels considered? Have you had adrenal hormones tested recently?
Insulin resistance is common in both hypothyroidism and adrenal issues. If it is a relatively new diagnoisis you may be able to reverse it through diet and ensuring thyroid hormones are optimal.
Thank-you stockman, this is really interesting. I have had pains in my thighs for over a year, thought at first it was from cycling a few miles uphill which I'm not used to. I have rice porridge made with coconut milk for breakfast and am wondering if this is the cause. Have a good weekend.
