For those on gf diet I would like to tell you of the lovely gf bread I now make .
My brother has the same issue snd introduced me to it .
Dove Freee white or brown bread flour . . The recipe is on the packet and apart from using one tablespoonful less of the oil ( I use Rapeseed,) It’s fine .
It’s the first time I have enjoyed gf bread it’s crusty and my husband favours it above bought ordinary shop bread , even the more expensive type.
I raise it in the loaf tin in a bowl of very warm water which takes about an hour ,
I estimate it cost less than a £1 ,

This is great to hear Gcart 😊I’ve not had much success making GF bread in my bread machine, so will try to do this the traditional way. It is more cost effective to make your own as some supermarket loaves are over £3 each.
Yes. It’s easier in a way because the mix makes a very thick batter ( no kneeling) Just pour it into a bread tin . Make sure it’s deep enough though it rises to a large loaf size .
I buy warburtons gluten free tiger loaf and it's £3.50, and about half the size of normal tiger loaf. I wonder if prices vary in different parts of the country
Thanks for posting that Gcart 😊 you’ve definitely sold it for me. I’m off out tomorrow to buy myself a bag of Dove Freee brown bread flour. I hardly ever eat bread because as you no doubt know GF bread isn’t all that nice and it can be pretty expensive.
My mother in law has tried a few different from scratch GF bread recipes but all very faffy, expensive and not very good results. I'll share the tip with her as well.
Apparently, the issue with bread makers and GF premixes or recipes is there's usually a double rise. New machines now include a GF loaf option which just has 1 rise which works much better.
Hello, your bread looks great! I am coeliac with hashi's but am dairy and egg intolerant, do you need eggs for this bread? I get the 'just' make bread on prescription but am willing to try my own.
I think you are right. I think I’ll go buy a packet of gf flour for the recipe. Thanks for spotting this, I thought Dove farm was all GF but I was clearly wrong
Hi. From what I can see on their website, not all flour/products in the Doves Farm range are gluten free. You need to select that specific range. All their flour is organic though.
Thank you Gcart for this recipie , really miss good bread since going gluten free. Can I just clarify with you , do you mean you use one less tablespoon of oil than the recipe states. ?
Yes The recipe is 6tablesooons of oil I did cut down to 5 I might even try 4 .I not concerned as I use rapeseed oil snd it’s supposed to be a healthy oil 🙂
I'm sorry, but I simply do not get what specifically is different between grass/sunflower/rapeseed and coconut. What property do they have that coconut doesn't? Or the other way round?
From my understanding rapeseed oil is a highly refined oil unless you go for a cold pressed one. It is also naturally high in sulphites so I avoid it as it causes me to be wheezy.
I'm curious also why you say oil being from seeds not healthy? I would have thought it depends on how much it is processed and if it is cold processed etc.
I never put much faith in recipes printed on sides of packets but how wrong I was on this occasion! I have used the recipe twice already since you posted it and it’s been FABULOUS. Crusty, light and dead simple. And makes fantastic toast. OMG I never knew how much I missed proper toast!
Slight variant from me: I use ‘No Egg Egg Replacer For Baking (Orgran)’ instead of eggs, just because I find it more practical.
